*This topic was inspired by reading Draco's poll* 8) Of course there are a million rip-offs, but they can really be fun. Some of the mods are really good too, if you add in over 20 different balanced heroes and give them some custom spells, and add in something original, all your really using of AoS is the engine. Which is really simple, "Wait 10 seconds, create 3 units here, here, here and here." It can really be challenging, and it will be a completely different game every time. Unlike tower defence maps, which is the same thing over and over, all you can really change is whether or not you get this tower or the other one. Aeon of Strife (Whoever the original creator is) is an original game, it should have been protected so it's originality would remain, but now you see these rip offs "Aeon of War" "Aeon of Heroes" "Aeon of Elder Heroes" etc. They all use the same engine, just with some modifications. While I still respect these maps and the time the creators have put into them I must say to you: If your going to modify a map, make it obvious what you changed, dont go and change 1 hero and make it godly, dont change the map a little and dont screw around with triggers you dont understand, like GOD I've seen so many of these mods with hardly anything changed! My map, Dark Crescent sadly does use the Aeon of Strife simple engine, but the thing is, it's not AoS. It has a great leaderboard system, custom spells, custom items, new skinned (well not new, jsut different characters), custom commands, an Autobook feature, handicap, 32 weapon/armor upgrades and most importantly a REAL AI! That's all that is in it currently, and a BETA release hasn't even been made public yet. I know I was just putting down the rip offs of AoS styled maps, but they are really fun (to me anyways). Creating an AoS style map isn't wrong, it's the same as creating a map for warcraft III, except AoS is an engine in an engine. So what do you think of these kind of maps? |

Guest | are you asking hte question you pretend to ask or are you just looking for sympathy because you feel like your ripping off another game. AOS and the like are very much fun, their popularity is what enspired me to make my own rpg custom map/game. Your map sounds like its a great improvement over hte old system, and if you are able to do all that you "promise" than it will most likely raise the bar for all of us. Good luck, and godspeed. Oh i guess this post marks your beta anoucement? |

AoS is not original. The War3 AoS was based off of the SC maps, which although not identical, were extremly similar, and those maps were based off of other sc maps. Also, the AoS idea isn't even very interesting. You have a hero. There are a shitload of comp units fighting. You help them. Weeee! |

Kel'Ash, these features are already working 100%, it's just a fact of private testing before I release a Beta to the public. Also I would like to add mroe features, but I'm out of ideas. And knightking, I used to play SC, but I don't ever remember an AoS style map.... oh well. |

They came out pretty late. Oh, and don't interpet my post as saying that they suck, as some of them are fun, but they just aren't original. |

WEll Aos is fun and is quite original (not much though) for the fact the maker had to remake a complete new version for the Wc3 platform sort of. Protecting the map would do almost no good. Editing it is ok but taking credit for all the freakin damn work is gay. Give much more creds to the creator. Ex: This map was made off the incredible AOS engine from... blablabla so on so on... Maps like ur hero and u battle in a big fight is quite kool. And sum of those so called rip-offs are sumwhat better! I got one with voiceover acting and custom spells and nefty kool trigs. Well its confusing world out there just dunt piss off people dat worked hard if you just ignore their efforts then :gfu: you! |

It's really dumb, because the Starcraft maps actually made a bit more sense than these do, since the Aeon of Strife is a period in PROTOSS history. Check your Starcraft manual. ^_^ |
