Shadows of Arimyth Campaign Demo

Hi, sorry everyone. Its been awhile since my last update concerning this project... August was busy for me with friends wedding, camping, getting ready to move and enjoying my last summer in Kelowna.

I've been meaning to get on top of things but I'm a full time student right now and my course load is pretty heavy, so unfortunatly I've not had a chance to get my demo finished and released.

Shadows of Arimyth is a very ambitious project I'm undertaking which takes place over a dozen RTS maps and over a dozen action-rpg dungeon maps... Kind of alternates each level, dungeon/rts/dungeon/rts for the most part.

Its a highly story/dialogue driven campaign that centers around 2 Celestial beings who've escaped to the world of Arimyth in order to inhabit the bodies of ancient fallen heroes and confront the Dark Avatars who have begun their brutal war of revenge against the Celestial Kingdom and the World of Arimyth. "You select 2 of 8 unique heroes near the very beginning, each of which comes with their own unique familiar who will automaticly follow you around and mimic your orders, however you can also manually control the familiar to an extent, they also level up and can carry items and equipment"

Arimyth is a world of my design with its own rich history, characters, locations... I even have a full map of Arimyth I made back in the days of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and its a world I've spend many years expanding upon and giving in depth story too.

Shadows of Arimyth is meant to tell the one of the major story arch of this world and spans over many distinct maps.

My demo consists of the first 3 levels not including the intro map... 2 full dungeons and 1 RTS level. The first level and intro is entirly done, the second level I need to work out kinks in the AI script still, hopefully that campaign ai tutorial will help. Its a pain testing the RTS levels alone to get the balance appropriate... I've played through the level numerous times and its either too easy or too hard, by far the most time consuming level... The 3rd level is done for the most part, I just need to incorperate in the familiar system, which was a somewhat last minute addition, then it needs to be re-tested for balance sake.

I'm playing through my 2nd level "The RTS level" currently to try n make sure the AI problems are taken care of and the difficulty is appropriate... Though computer AI always seems to do unusual and unexpected things each time around.

Demo Features:

-4 Playable levels including 1 prologue, 2 dungeons and an RTS level. All painstakingly designed for visual perfection, fun factor and uniqueness.
-8 Selectable unique heroes, each with their own unique familiar
-Action RPG driven dungeons that use keyboard movement and allow you to manually dodge enemy melee attacks and most projectiles and spells.
-Puzzles and avoidable traps within the dungeons
-Unique music
-2 Climactic boss fights in the 2 dungeon maps.
-Story driven campaign.
-Select and of the four races in the RTS map which you'll use to face off against the preset computer opponents and bases.
-Each race has a new upgrade and can now build their own seaport.
-Optional Side Quests
-Challenging
-New character models

I will hopefully have the demo finished and released around Christmas, but in the meantime I could always use a bit of help testing it before full public release... If I see enough people enjoying the demo and get enough support and help through it then I will defiently finish the project... However this project is too large in order for me to undertake all by myself... The demo I did on my own to encourage support, in order to finish this project I'll need help as I simply don't have the time to do it on my own... But I'll worry about that after the demo has been released.

In the meantime you can take a look at more information about Arimyth on my web site.

I've tried to take screen shots of my demo but it doesn't seem to work... I hit printscreen while I'm in the game and it says "screenshot captured" the screenshot directory is full of 3mb .tga files and when I try and view them, their's nothing, just says "no preview available" So if anyone can help me with this problem I'll be sure to post some good screens ASAP.

Thanks a lot.

Hm, not sure I'll be able to get around to completeting this anytime soon... I wanted to release the 3 level demo, but refining the RTS level is defiently a time consuming process...

I am currently enrolled in school fulltime, hell I even have to go on Sunday... But I am kinda second guessing this project...

For one no one has expressed any interest at all in assisting in the project if the demo turns out to be good and interesting for the community... Granted I haven't been able to release the demo yet so it's a bit hard to gather interest.

And also Arimyth is suppose to be more Action-RPG focused then RTS but I am having a hard time capturing the Action-RPG element due to the limitations of the combat system... Poor equipment/inventory setup/selection and very limited # of skills per hero.

Have there been people looking forward to my demo at all from the details I've released so far?

But the thing is if I don't do this in the WC3 engine I'm pretty much waiting for Diablo 3 in the hopes they release an editor or more advanced modding capabilities then Diablo 2... D2 is too hardcoded and limiting in terms of modding to do what I'd wanna do... Idealy I'd want a very strong action-rpg engine with a powerful and somewhat user friendly world editor...

I know the dungeon siege and Titan's Quest editors were both horrific.
