So I just got it, and I'm asking myself, why the hell would I have a use for a .wings file? Is there any way to convert it into something I can use? On another note, I've noticed wings isn,t all that used (i think), so not a lot of people ask questions on it. I've got some... 1- How do I convert a .wings file into something useful? I don't know what exactly but heck, anything, .mdx or .obj whatever... 2- I thought you could do some UV unwrap with wings, where? How? 3- Does ANYONE have enough Wings knowledge to make a tutorial or two? The tutorials on the site just aren't headed towards Wc3, which is what I want to use it for, BTW. More may be added, feel free to throw bricks at my window if you think this is a stupid thread. |

I haven't used wings in a while but I remember enough to help you out a little. To save wings as a obj, 3dmax, etc type file you have to use the export function. Making UV maps in wings is pretty easy and fast, but don't ask me the specifics cause its been too long. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but you can't really use wings to make warcraft 3 models. |

I believe that the best you can hope for with wings is to get unanimated models through some roundabout way, but I don't know how. Gmax (free if you can find it), 3ds max (expensive), or Milkshape(cheap) are better choices for Warcraft modeling. |

then I have to ask why its in a tools thread (stickied somewhere in model editing or whatever). Thats too bad, I was hoping to cheat my way out of mdl editing and 3ds max. :( Guess I'll have to give up modeling and get to skinning (with GIMP, my god I'm cheap (even though its great freeware)). But still, if anyone can find somthing interesting about wings, might as well post it here. |

MDL editing is, by and large, the most effective means of producing models that match the Warcraft style with a minimum of cost. |

It seems so complicated though, I'll just read tutorials and see how I can manage. |

There are some tools that make it simpler. Like Magos editor. |

*Pours a glass* A little ArrDeeZizzle for your thoughts? Whatever inspired you to "master" MDL editting anyways? |

A chance doodle during a boring maths lesson. Led to me Milkshaping stuff. Led me to MDL editing the crap that came out kdub's exporter to make something good. Led me to massive knowledge about everything. |

DId I say "master" Mdl editing? I could have sworn I have never said that... Nothing inspires me too much, unfortunatly. :| I could skin, but I find it boring... well, ok just very demanding for something good. I could map more, but I'm always too lazy. Anyways, I picked up the vertex modifier. Useful, I just wish the windows would be bigger, its annoying on a big screen like I have... |
