Editing problems with spelleditor

Ok for my first spell edit i tried something simple. I took slow poison, renamed it to "slow ammo" and added a mana cost of 5. I edited this both in abilitydata.slk and the nightelfabiltyfunc.txt and nightelfabiltystrings.txt files. Then i added these files to the map, and loaded it with some dryads to check the result.
First, while I could see my renamed spell "slow ammo" in the unit editor through abilities, my map ran so slowly that i could not check to see if I could see it in game as well.

I gave the map to a friend to see if he could verify the new spell on his comp. He did not see the renamed spell, only the original slow poison. I tried several variations on the files in the w3m. I put units/abilitydata.slk, i put just abilitydata.slk, but nothing would work for him. It also did not show up in his editor.

What did I do wrong?

WE deletes any files added to the w3m file when it saves, so you need to add the AbilityData.slk file to the w3m after every time you save with WE. As to the part about it being slow, I'm unsure...
