Modern 3dsmax exporting

Hi all.

I have a friend with access to 3dsMax 9 - is there any advantage in me going over there and borrowing his system to create models, or should i stick with GMAX?

The guts of this question is, are there mdl export scripts for the .max filetype that 3dsmax 9 saves as?

Cheers

I think DEX exporter would work with max 9 too, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I highly advise you to find 3ds max 5 (with the Art Tools) for wc3 modding, if not gmax. What you could do though is to model in max 9 then export them in gmax or max 5 and from there to wc3, because the toolset of 8 and 9 are highly superior. That's what I do.

Yeah, use both as TDR said.

I hope it's okay that I ask a question here too.

I have some problems exporting my models into war3. I have made a model, with texture and a animation. Then i have tried to use the DEX exporter i Gmax but i would have to copy paste some of the code into notepath. But I can't mark all of the code, which means... it fucks up.

I have experienced this too. Maybe only in gmax.

Have you tried clicking at the beginning, scrolling to the end, holding shift, and clicking at the end to select it all?

Maybe i should make a new thread.

Anyway i tried in 3ds max 7 and it didn't work, nothing copies into the listener. Then i tried Gmax and holding shift, didn't work either.

I'm getting kind of desperat because I'm a good modellere and skinner, but have been trying for ages to export and import so it would work in war3. Any ideas what I would do?

Dude I think you might done my misstake;
- Did you select the mesh before pressing the use script/whatever button?
- Are you sure the mesh is a mesh and not a poly?

mmk there is a trick for that gmax code just incase your still woundering after you export it and open up the listener before you highlight anything. hold the Alt key then move across the listener to highlight then just stay above it to and move your mouse around to make it keep highlighting stuff now before you let go of that alt key after its done highlighting right click. then just click on the top window of the listener and hit CTRL+C then go to your notpad and hit CTRL+V sometimes it won't copy the stuff highlighted the first time so you might have to click the listener window(Alwase the top part never the text box) again.
