Presentation:

« Marines Assault » (not the definitive map name) take place in Starcraft Acathla universe. Marines Assault is a multiplayer map, a Team RPG-survival type. The player will play one of the 5 ( 5 for the moment ) terran specialist heroes and will need to play in team to win against the Zergs ( controlled by AI ).

Objectives: Protect the mining colony until the end of civilians evacuation.


Gameplay:

What is a Team RPG-survival ? Easy, the team of heroes will defend the colony from Zergs assaults (incoming with periodic event), it’s the survival part. After defined numbers of or between each Zergs assaults, players get a new quest that they have to complete. It’s the RPG part.

- A quest complete reduces the incoming for the next Zergs assaults. If players don’t go to complete any quests, Zergs assaults become insane… and victory impossible.

- Players have to get out from the colony to complete the quests and quickly return to colony to defend it.

- Civilians evacuations are periodic and done by dropship : some civilians get out from a building, be loaded in a dropship, dropship take off and go to a point in the corner of the map. If during an evacuation, any civilian is killed, each player loses some money. For each dropship successfully left the map, the team wins money.

- Each Zerg killed, quests complete, civilians evacuated give money
For the moment, heroes are designed for 10 levels.

Specialist Heroes:

4 of the heroes are already done ( models, spells, triggered, icons ). All heroes got 2 default abilities and 4 heroes spells
You can already play those heroes as hero or as units in Acathla mission 2

>>Sergeant ( artillery specialist )

Experienced sergeant who can lead mans to victory with Aura leader, Warrior past, Ravage, Perforating Bullet, Satellite Strike. Attacks land and air units.

Default Ability 1 : Warrior past : “Sergeant Attal Fenris is an experienced warrior, who saw the Starcraft conflict’s outbreak. Originally from a dissident faction of – successively - the confederacy and the empire, he followed his men after the defeat of Directorate troops. The Sergeant landed on Acathla and reconstructed the Wolf God’s section with his former war companions. |n Attal Fenris suffers from many battle aftereffects, having in particular lost both his legs. Thanks to personalised exoskeleton armour, he has transformed this handicap into an advantage: the torso armour chest can make a 360° rotation. This makes the dorsal modules whirl violently, which in turn seriously wounds and repels nearby units.” This ability improves apace with Attal’s experience. Slasher Knocker : 10% of chances to counter melee attacks. Deals up to 96 damage points by counterattacking. Knock back the nearby units.

Default Ability 2 : Order Artillery :( 2 or more tanks will defend the colony, only controlled by Sergeant )
State 1: Order to tanks to attack-ground in a small area.
State 2: Order to tanks to stop attacking the ground and let them choose the targets.


Perforating Bullet: The munitions are reserved for hand-held weapons with a weaker shooting rate compared to the standard Gauss gun. The Cellymen perforating bullets enhance damage caused by hand-held weapons, and they pierce and burst the target’s armor.

Ravage: Ravage calls in artillery to decimate the enemy ranks and installations. The damages caused by the blast are ground targetable only, and it can damage your own soldiers. Ravage can also destroy certain rocks. This capacity doesn’t work underground. The more you are meritorious, the longer the carnage lasts.

Aura leader: The leader, with his command quality and experience, better guides his troops during combat. Increase nearly allied troops’ moving and attack speed.



Ultimate: Satellite Strike: Call a powerful satellite strike that deals big damages all to units, buildings, wards, rocks & trees. Duration of the strike : 40 seconds.

>>Corporal ( infantry specialist )

Default ability 1: Explosive Salvo :The officer orders three nearby marines to use their grenade-launchers simultaneously at the same point.

Default ability 2: Run mode : Activate to improve the marine’s speed by 25%; he can’t attack anymore.
EXO mastery: More experience the officer has, more he is well trained. He acquire a perfect mastery of his exoskeleton. He gains in speed, in shooting cadence, armor and in damages.

Back up: Call a drop of marines on the drop zone. More experienced you are, more you'll get experienced marines. You can't call back up if you own more than 10 marines on the battlefield.

Pressure : Corporal makes his men under pressure to increase their performances significantly for a short period of time.

Trance : COME ON ZERGS, I WILL KICK YOUR ASS ! Corporal falls in trance state for a short period of time. Fury and adrenaline give to him crazy performances (attack speed, critical strike, damages, movement speed ) but take more damage. During the trance effect, Corporal get a such charisma that his nearby men get temporary bonus proportional to Zerg units killed by their corporal during Trance.

>>Medical officer (support specialist)

Default ability 1: Sharp Shield : The medical officer’s shield acts as a first-aid kit and is equipped with sharpened blades. The shield accords a bonus of 3 in armor and the blades returns 20% of melee damages.

Default ability 2: Electric Propagation : Increase energy regeneration of nearby allied units. When Energy propagation module is attacked, it becomes unstable and gives a chance to medical officer to counter the attack by a powerful electric shock. This ability is increased automatically with Medical officer experience.

Heal: Heal a friendly unit at the rate of …( it depend of current level )



Drug shot: Function : It randomly converts zerg units and give the leads.
Launch an experimental energy shock and drugging gas to inhibit zerg units psy sensor. The medical officer has a chance to convert the zerg units shocked to follow her leading. With the experience, the medical officer can improve her mastery of the interface controlling the psy control and increase the chances of conversion.
Note: Shocked units have to stay 2-3 s in the gas to broke the psy link.



Hallucinogenic Capsule: It sprays radioactive gas. If the enemies stay at
least five seconds in contact with this gas, it creates hallucinations in enemies’ units mind. Radiations damage the enemies’ units very little and this damage is not uniformly spread over the enemies’ units.



Full Recharge [satellite strike]: Full recharge energy cells of the hero. It damages all nearby during the Full recharge satellite strike. The hero needs to be static 8-10 s, if the hero moves it can be damaged too.

>>Chief officer (logistic specialist)

Default ability 1: Repair: Repairs mechanical units and buildings. Slower than the SCV repairing.

Default ability 2: Bomb Programming :
Right Click: Activate the automatic counter attack.
One click: Pre-program the bombs to be placed so they explode 5 seconds after being placed.
Default state / one click : Pre-program the bombs to be placed so they can be distance-activated.

Steel Thooted Trap: Deploy a path blocker who inflicts important damage on whoever attacks it in melee.

Sentry gun: Deploy a light tripod-mounted machinegun. Number of Sentry Guns on the battlefield is limited and depends on the level of the ability.

Explosive Charge: Put down a charge on the ground to blow up all units, wards, installations, rocks and buildings. 3 Programs.



Antalisk : Deploy a small group of Antalisks ( mechanic zergling ) that are spell immunized, got Sharp skin and could explode under 20 hp.

>>Eradicator (cleaning specialist)

Default ability 1: Jump, take some little damages after the jump because his jumpers system are not really perfect.

Default ability 2: Provocation and Fire resistant armor, resistance to fire from his own spells.



Gas puddle: Spray on the ground a gas puddle (with timer expiration). When this puddle is attacked by the eradicator, a tank, or another gas puddle burning, it burns and burns Zerg walking on it.



Blue capsule: Shoot an experimental projectile to a Zerg unit. The zerg unit hit by a blue capsule become completely crazy and has chances to :
- change owner and become neutral hostile
- become paranoid and tell to a random number of his friends to go to an “important” direction.
- change owner and become allied
- kill herself
- attack a fictive target



Shield of fire: Eradicator sprayed gas around him, and strike it. Fire deals damage to nearby units and smoke give good evade to the hero.



Flash Bomb and Jumper: let a bomb from his back falls on the ground. The bomb deals only damage to ground units on a medium area. Just before the bomb explodes, jumper automatically make the eradicator jump to be not damaged by the bomb.

Development Team:

Me.

For who played Acathla Mission 1 and 2 and knows that I’ve done 95% myself, knows that I’m able to do it myself.

I only need sometimes some experts to answer my questions.

If you want to help on triggers, level design, etc.. there is only one condition: doing it fast and don’t let me mail you with “so what’s up ?”. You’ll have to work 2 h/day. If you can’t do it, forget it.

Other Help needed:

- Beta testers : I think there is a big work on the balance.
- English corrector: as you can read, my English is not good. This job will come at end of each release.
- “Brain stormer”: We’ll need ideas for quest (I got many of them but if you have good ones….), items from shops, gameplay etc…

How I’ll proceed:

I’ll make several releases before the final one. For each release, I want to test it, balance it, debug it etc. For example, first release will be without quest, only the hero, the colony and the survival but fully playable. I’ll proceed step by step.

Progress:

4 heroes are modeled, skinned, spell are triggered.
All extras models are already 75%.

I think you should add a warstomp effect when the guy come down, and use it as a heros ability, insteed of the blue capsule.

Looks good but a bit too clean. Or neat. Just needs to look a bit more roughed up if you ask me.

Anyway, just wanted to say that you can give me a call if you need a proofreader, I've enough time for that at the moment. I'd like to help with other stuff, but I know I'm not gonna have enough time, so I'm not even gonna offer

ok thx :) Correction on Marine Assault will be needed with the beta version.

The building are not old and acathla air is dry ^^ But i can put some more sand, carried by the wind, on the roofs and details.

Nice buildings, as mentioned they look a bit too clean, would be good with some sand, perhaps some damage here and there.

Wow, more quality work from Abriko. I love your designs, kind of like Starcraft with your own flavor added to it. I think I may be drooling a little XD

Sounds kind of like an Enfos or one of the old Starcraft Starship Trooper-style maps. I enjoyed playing those SST maps, I hope you can bring some of that back to WC3.
