It either looks like he is pleasuring himself or stabbing himself in the nether regions with a hypodermic needle. ![]() |

You lack every element a study should be composed off. These are not studies at all, just...not even sketches. When you study something, you must spend hours doing it and look at every aspect of it. Measure it's proportions (that's THE most important aspect), then it's general shape then the detail inside, then the volume and finally (if necessary) the material, texture etc. But for now you must stick to finding the right proportions. Don't do anything else. Don't add any detail at all, don't even draw the shape. Draw boxes, for example, for each body part but make the boxes proportionally correct and don't worry about perspective. And please leave the digital world away when you do this. Pencil manipulation is more important right now and you have more control and feel over it and it will be easier for you. Oh, and moved to the concept art forum. Please keep the gallery for finished and polished works only. |

Hmm, proportions...I know. I have already bought many art books, but in none it is described how to draw a horizon plane, or how to achieve shortenings in perspective view. I thought about getting a plastic human figure or something like that, and draw that one from all sides. I know the subdivision of the human figure into 8 heads, and the different techniques with simple shapes but this doesnt explain at all how long the leg will be if its slightly upwards. I also have no opportunity to draw humans from life, so I guess ill need to copy the drawings in my artbook. |

It's 7 heads, actually. |

7 for women, 8 for men I thought. |

7 without the head, 8 with the head. Or 7½, whatever. Quote:
I see that you want everything to be told to you and that you don't want to learn by yourself. Why is that? That's the purpose of studying. And what do you mean you don't have the opportunity to draw humans from real life? There are millions of humans around you, especially your family and people at your school and friends. Make one of your parents or friends to pose for you, for example (not nude, for God's sake), or if you don't do that then during a break at school do a quick sketch of someone who is relatively still, a sketch just for main proportions (even a stick figure if you like, just get the proportions right). If you are dedicated enough, you find tons of solutions to your needs. If you don't really want to do this, then I understand you. P.S.: WARNING: I think I might have sounded mean again, so I write this to assure you that I wasn't rude or something, and I don't want to offend you, that's the way I talk. Peace, mister and keep practicing. |

I have, to my great unpleasure, to admit that I often find no motivation to draw. I guess..no, I hope, that its just because im mostly completely unable to draw good, and this will change with more practice. Oh, I'm willing to practice as much as I need to, but Im no drawing machine who is always lusting to draw. Maybe this is a very bad sign for an art career. Maybe im already screwed up. But I couldnt think of a better job than art (actually Id like to become a 3d modeller, and Im practicing drawing for that). Edit: I took your advice to heart, and Im trying to learn proportions from a wooden puppet. Also trying to catch my parents in front of the TV...thats the only time where people sit relatively still. |

ok. And also remember that YOU are always there and available to be drawn. So whenever you have the time, make a quick sketch of your hand or foot or a self portrait. As for motivation, don't worry. I remember when I was in 11th grade and going at an architecture class (with a wonderful teacher, who is a great architect) and he was acting and giving us homework like we had nothing better to do all day than draw. And I said "fuck him! who the fuck does he think he is? I have better things to do than draw all day."...that was as stupid as I could get. Only this year, after I've seen my results for the architecture university exam, I realized how right he was and that this is what really want to do and that drawing all day long is the thing for me and that I was a stupid fuck until then. I know I sounded a little cheesy, but that's the fact. |
