I think if you import (Import manager) it under the proper name, the settings and changes should take effect.

I dont think that work. When you save the map, it generate a new war3map.j.
So you need to open the map with a mpq editor. Extract the war3map.j, edit it, and then import it (with the mpq editor).
What mpq editor do you use? I think it work with WinMPQ

What you can do instead of importing it with an MPQ Editor is that you can import the map using the import manager and save it as "war3map.j" as Ammorth said. This way does work, as I was just testing it with a tool I was making and imported both a new war3map.doo file and war3map.j file, both overwrote the old one.

Yes, the import manager overrides files with the same path that you import, as it says when you edit a files path.
So edit the .j however you want, then import it via Import Manager in the World Editor, but remember, it has to be called wc3map.j, not wc3importwc3map.j or anything.

You can also delete (attributes) when you reimport and it'll be fine. Nothing uses it.
