Is laser worth it?

Recently, I've played a string of games using laser only to see how if it's actually an under-rated weapon or if it just sucks, I've tried a few different maps and this is what I found.

Pros:
  • The DPS, assuming you hit everytime, laser has a DPS of 13.33 as opposed to sniper's 11.11. In the time it takes to do 100 damage with a sniper, you do 120 with a laser.
  • The Cooldown, laser lets you get the edge on people using snipers or miniguns because of the cooldown, you can hit them and jump around while thier still waiting.
  • The size, the size and speed of a laser make it harder to dodge, but this is also a con since you dont see a sniper coming but you sure see a laser.

The cons:
  • The range, it really really sucks. I mean it says long ranged projectile, but it's like 1/2 of sniper's range if even that (does sniper even have a range limit?), that really takes away from it. It's kidna a mid ranged weapon then, for mid ranged you have the option of sub-machine gun (no need to explain this) and shrapnel (it can lob over cliffs, and a good 1 hit does more damage than a sniper shot. Why use laser when you can do AOE with shrapnel or be a noob with sub-machine?
  • KSes, laser is not a finishing weapon, more often that not I'll get one hit and someone else will finish it off, which kinda ticks me off I wanted the kill :( this isnt really a con you help your team blah blah blah, but it's not fun.
  • The damage, 40 damage makes it one of the lowest in the game, even acid does more (25 base and then 5 damage extra every second, Im not sure how many seconds it goes for but 3 sounds around right), plus it slows them down. Shrapnel is AOE and a full hit does some nice damage, and i dont think I have to explain the rest of the weapons.
  • Mixed role, a sniper is supposed to snipe, a mini gun is to defend, submachine is for close combat, what is laser for? Medium combat?


The in-betweens:

  • The bounce, bouncing isnt exactly bad but it doesnt do much good. I have hardly ever got a kill from a bounce, that only happens if you miss them and if you miss them usually the bounce also misses them. Only good for bounce is firing into small corridors and/or bases. Not worth it.

So my 2 cents?

Im not sure about you but I think laser isnt worth it right now, it has the drawbacks of a sniper (cant fire over the edge like a shrapnel, 1 bullet only) and also lacks the range.


Suggestions?
  • Buff damage, maybe but Im not a fan of this, there are other ways to buff a weapon.
  • Make it go over steep ramps or something not neccessarily high walls but ramps, this would make it really useful if you ask me.
  • Bounce damage, everytime you bounce the bullet does like 15 more damage than before, great idea I think, this makes aiming to hit after a bounce important and makes laser a killer in a small alley.

Whats your take?

I agree, the current laser is underpowered, however it has already been reworked for the next version, in a way that I think really makes it a decent weapon. Am I going to say what we did with it? No. :P The new version should be out in a couple of days, so you'll be able to give it a try soon.

You forgot the info about the game times.

However, I would like to make a quick suggestion. Make the selected times 10, 20, and 30 minutes. The max is now 15 and the old version was 20 (which I actually felt was short). If you do not wish to do so, add a rematch option. I personally think the rematch option should scramble the teams (so they are even, not if they are already even).

Oh, and I would definetly state on the tooltip that laser is armor piercing.

Btw, I think the new anti-team killing technique is nice, but I do NOT think it should give the gold to your ally. The problem is, an ally uses clorine, I run in the clorine and die simply to gain money. I have seen people do this multiple times already.

And I REALLY think you should change the timers, but thats just me...

I agree with shadowdestroyer. 15 minutes is way too short for this game. It almost takes me that long to get 11 random pubs to play with me. The reason games end so quickly though, is because players often leave and flag captures are really easy to pull off with good team work. At least add the rematch feature? I understand that team balance may be a problem, which is why I also suggest an auto-team balance feature.
