I was just wondering how to make an animation for a portrait. Do you use FDD boxes to animate lips or do you use bones?

Thanks

bones is the only animation system that works for warcraft (unless you use one of the cool progs programmed by some haxx0r programmers here)

Chriz.
I separate the mesh around the lips, attach it to a bone, make sure that the mesh is "connected", and then I move the separated parts up and down like you're talking.

In the animation it stretches and if you do it right, it looks like he's talking. You can do the same for other parts of the face if you want to distort them.

bleh. use morpher and then 3dmaxhy's vertex animation exporter to make it work for wc3.

What do you mean by morpher TDR? FFD?

Use a single bone and link it to the jaw, that's usually enough for lips movement. If you want to make it more lifelike, you may want to animate the pupils or eyebrows instead of losing time with the mouth.

Hide the mouth with a scarf or mask of some kind, and just nod the head a bit.

I'm telling you morpher is the best, that's how professional face rigs are made with too. Morpher is a modifier and has nothing to do with ffd. Search for morpher tutorials for max on the net and also check the tutorials that come with max about it. It should work with 3dmaxhy's vertex animation exporter to be exported for wc3.
