Lava (How it looks)

Hello, I seem to have posted this in the wrong spot XD so I'll do it here-

No, this is not the I hate lava stage or anything, I like the stage, this is only a mere suggestion of how the actual lava looks like.

It has been bothering me ever since I started playing ET is how the lava just looks in general. I think it is too light IMO. I suggest using the same thing you have right now but with a light red fog and 255 red 0 blue and 0 green rising water (wide) and set that as a unit (so you can play with the height easily) with no shadow of course and time the exact time you want for the water to be in the game and set animation speed to 0%.

Yes, I know the water will stop its animation but if you set it at the exact time that the water is still somewhat transparent, the shallow water under it will show its animation so it won't be this still water the whole way through. At the bottom, the picture is what I did in world editor using what I just typed :P

I think the rising water is just a little too high in my pic because in game, you probably wouldn't be able to see the shallow waters animate through the rising water. (BTW I used the lorderon summer - dirt for the tile underneath so the metal tile you are using now will be in a darker color already so the rising water in a low height will give a darker red and the illusion of more depth) This is just a suggestion (I don't expect anything) and I thank you for your time in reading this huge wall of text ><

That screenshot looks like red water with fire on it, not lava.

Well so does ET version 1.2- I'm just suggesting a more deeper red.

meh all wc3 lava looks like that. You're just saying that because it is tinted water with fire on it :P

Well it's not just red tinted water and fire, in my post I also stated that it used rising water (wide) to give it more red

Edit: Ok, here's another pic...trying to actually make look like lava (no custom stuff)

Oh my Jeeves. That freaking LOOKS like lava. Though the whole blackish terrainish gunk would be... interfering in my opinion. Though I like the way it looks.

That looks far superior, that's what lava is after all, lumps of semi-molten black rock floating across fully molten rock. You rarely get purely molten lava unless you're up near the top of the volcano.

I still don't like the red, but there's nothing you can do about that. The tinted ice makes it look much better, i suggest you use that in all the lava.

Its not as easy as that though. Lava has ALOT of 1-tile spaces where you can't fit blocks like that. And without the blocks, it's the same old lava. Also, thats a picture of deep water not shallow water with edges (its the edges that look worst). I agree it can be improved though ^^

I don't understand...for the one tile spaces all you do is change the X Y and Z into a lower number after you have placed on world editor. I also don't understand about the deep water, I used shallow water and I don't get what you mean by edges. Sorry, I'm pretty stupid XP

Hm.. I dont like the water as it is easier.
Why not just put a massive rising water (i meanm massive) in the center of the lava, make animation speed 0, and make its fly height negative, so it only shows the top of the rising water. That would make a dark colored lava i believe.
Btw, how about giving lava a small burning effect for like 5 seconds after you exit lava. Its more realistic; and maybe make it do 1-2 damage per second.

Dil, that is exactly what I said in my previous posts...and the effect still kinda goes on after they exit the lava.

Agreed, it can be prettier. I'll see what I can do.

I don't understand what Gadden meant by the edges ><
