About TGA -> BLP conversions

Why is Warcraft 3 Viewer sometimes unable to convert TGA to BLP? It says "Conversion succesful", but BLP filesize is 0kb and skin does not work. Is this something that happens under some certain circumstances?

to my knowledge war 3 model editor does the job perfectly. So you might want to use that instead.

IMHO, war 3 viewer is a horrible tool.

Okay :D It's just something I have downloaded times ago and been using it when needed.

Just use wc3 image extractor. And viewer is hardly a horrible tool

No matter what of the three options I use result's the same; when I import my skin (BLP) to my map and set the path correctly WE doesn't seem to find whole model. Now I've done my share of moderations on WC3 so I know I'm not completely noob, but is there something I should know about villager skins?

EDIT Okay, nevermind. It seems that there's something whacky about those villagers. Tested the same stuff for Grunt with WC3Viewer and everything worked just fine.

Only thing I can think of is that your skin might not be the right size? You know, 256x256, 512x512 etc etc etc?

oh hey, now.. If I make a custom skin, do I have to import both the skin AND the model? :p ... If so, I will feel horrible

Sorry that I put this here, though I've had problems with custom skins now for VERY long and never got an answer to why it wouldn't work.
I do this before converting to blp;
Hidden information:
Size is, 16x16,32x32,64x64,128x128,256x256 or 16x32, 32x64 .. etc
Color is, 24bit or 32bit.
File type is TGA or BMP.
And I make sure that;
Model contains no vertexes that are not fit to other vertexes, sometimes when using model editor to scale together vertexes they still have animations and react very strangely when the model moves.
But then again, I never got any custom skins working :p So I do something wrong. Or forget something. :(

I don´t understand what you mean. You want to import a custom skin for a wc3 model or for a custom model? If it´s a custom model, it´s one made from scratch by you or you downloaded it from this/another site?
As for the file type, it MUST be a tga before you convert it to blp, bmp doesn´t support alpha channels.

I have modified Blizzard models from the .mpq, changed their skin, or took parts from them, some of them work but none with custom skins. (I do use TGA mostly, but always after saving(32bit or 24bit with alpha channels) and converting to .blp they refuse to work. I've heard that something about War3 Model Editor being able to convert tga2blp but I don't see the feature in it
Can read some about it in my post in "The Forge" here
I tried all the tga2blp converters I have found. And for .bmp I only used it because the .tga wouldn't work, and I was thinking I'd try without transparency and see if it would work ingame. But same results.
I was thinking since my custom skins weren't working maybe I have to import the .blp to the map in the same folder as specified in the .mdx(or .mdl before converting to .mdx). I've yet to try though, just thought of it after reading in this thread.
There is one exception btw, there is actually one model that I have no custom skin on that wont show up in game. A helmet I added horns too, I split to two geospecs and used original skins for both parts. Did not work though.. :\ Made me sad

I had this EXACT SAME problem just yesterday. Solved it today.

1) DL Magos' Model Editor.
2) Open the skin in Magos' Model Editor.
3) Go to Windows > Texture manager.
4) Right click (On the picture name) > Export.
4) Save it with a .blp at the end of the name.
5) DONE. Go test it and it should work.

Also make sure you get the paths for yopur custom textures right, by the sound of it, that may verry well be your problem.
