The Daemon

My entry to the first contest held on Maps'n'Mods.

The theme was scary/mysterious cutscene with two different endings. I've done my best to fulfil these requirements.

The main hero is just an average guy with some drinking problems. One night he becomes the sole witness of a murder, but are people going to believe him? And could it only be his own imagination?

At one point you get to decide what should Richard do next. The decision will ultimately mean the difference between redemption and descent into madness. Choose well, and don't forget to watch the other ending too!

I'd like to thank the following people:

Kevin MacLeod for music (visit his website for awesome and free music)
Taplonaplo for the World Tree roots models
SpeedY for some sounds
iNfraNe and SnaKy for help with the lightning.

Enjoy!

PS, the voicing is currently in production. As soon as it is done, I'll post the voiced version.

Anyway, some innovative stuff going on. Some of which gave me a few ideas to improve on. Your work is only improving, please continue :)

Indirectly - Lights (ambient light and omnilights).

Before SoV, I experimented with lights cast by torches and such. Before I could get myself somebody who can extract the light from the models, SoV came and made it all easier for me.

For all that, I've spelt you correctly in this update =)

Edit:

I forgot to mention - you may notice that there is not preview pciture showing in wc3. To be honest, I have no ide what's wrong. If you take the picture from this map and put it to any other, it shows. Alternatively, if you take a working preview picture file from any other map and put it in this one, it doesn't show up. In the end I gave it up, but if any of you have any ideas what could be causing it, please tell me.

I agree, this definatley deserved first place. Anyway, the cinematography was excellent, some cool features in there. I would only suggest working on your terraining a bit.

I must say I was a little dispointed the first time I saw it, because this story really original ended up with a million times seen scene of crazy cultists summoning a demon... At first I didn't get the symbol of demon=alcohol as I'm used to the fact that in war 3 a demon is a demon and that's all :D

That said, it's a really original plot, it reminds me of the Zurg's themes (life of ordinary people in war3, this kind of stuff).

I really love you job on camera moves and places. How do you always have this zoom effect like in Kubrick's Shining, when the background seem to move back quickly ? That's really your strong point, except story.

The terrain is good but nothing terrific. The only thing that bothered me was the RED trees ?? -whereas all the rest was realistic- and the green fog was a bit out of place also IMO (for the same reason).

Sound is good, music well used even if not noticeable, only the chanting imported sound was aggressive because of poor quality (and I don't like it but that's just me), others were good.

I'm amazed by the fact you say you were short on time for polishing, this map is really well made overall.

Deserves rep, good job, you aren't the King for nothing, aren't you ?

Really good man. The credits at the end need to be in a bigger font though. I thought triggers was the N word.
