Need oppinions on the terrain and layout

Well, decided I might as well start a thread for this since I finally got my ass into gear. Anyway, the terrain is going to be used in my new AoS which is essentially the evolution of my old AoS.

The old one used Felwood for the tileset with one extra tile, and had an atmosphere to it which I liked. It's predominantly green so it isn't aggravating to look at and is pretty much in keeping with the style of WC3.

The new one uses the same concept for it's terrain with some different execution and the like. The idea wasn't to go for realistic, but rather practical and appeasing to look at. I should point out that I'm not really much of a terrainer so I'm here asking for your input and advice. Any constructive criticism and advice is very much welcome.

I plan to update the thread with new screenshots of various elements as I finish them, and update the old ones after you guys help me out with your brilliant ideas!

Anyway, this is what I have so far. It isn't finished, and I'm still considering adding some fog, at least to certain areas.

The town - The first 4 pics
Your generic town I suppose, not much to look at here. The shops, a fountain, a stash and two purely aesthetic elements. Now, I know the statue is an eyesore like that, and I'd like to replace it with something, but I'm having a hard time finding something that fits.

Anyway, I'd like to know if it's too busy? Too chaotic? Too bland? Anything?

Various elements - The rest
Here are some of the bits of terrain that are located in between the lanes, they will probably contain creep camps in the future. I went with a thickly wooded feeling, with various doodads to lighten the mood in certain areas. It's still a bit flat in sections, and I'm working on it. Any comments?

P.S. Sry for the wall of text, and thx for your time!

The town should really be a village instead because of the size i saw from the screenshots. The cliff in screenshot 7 could use some something hanging off from it. Overall, it's good.

It's kind of hard to see, maybe give us a screenshot from world edit?

Ok, I'll post some WE pics later today (don't have the time now). I took those in-game since the idea is for them to be dark, but I suppose it's be better taking them in WE.

It always seems to me that terrain serves as a distraction rather than a key component in AoS maps. The worse they look, the more fun I seem to have in them. I wish you luck with your project though, the terrain looks great.

Base looks nice, but yea we need a world picture.

What type of layout are you going on lanes? and how many etc.

Ok, I'll go get the WE ones now. The layout is a classic 3 lane system (bottom left to top right) and it's a bit wider than regular. All those shots are in areas between lanes which will probably contain creep camps.

Anyway, off to take some shots...

...

And here they are. They're the same one as the ones above except they're in the WE. Sorry for there being 11 of them, but I'd rather show what there is in detail.

Dude, that's only like a quarter of the terrain! If that!

And don't worry, I'm working on the spawns and bases now as well as on the first hero who'll be used as a showcase in the first preview.

Anyway, glad you liked it!

Its meh. For an AOS, I would recommend you keep the terrain at a steady level and try and minimize the amount of aesthetics as much as possible. If it doesn't have a practical use or effect, I'd scratch it.

Well, all the areas that are important to gameplay are kept simple, streamlined and with minimal aesthetics which aren't distracting. As for the rest, I like it to have more content and be aesthetically more appealing.
