Greetings! Another project of mine. I began to work with this last night when I got home from work and had some free time. As usual, it expanded into math triggers almost immediately, but so far I am pretty happy how it's turned out so far. I am planning to add many maps on this one, though it's gonna need lot's of work. Setting's a sci-fi/western/fantasy style of world in where there are great future cities as well as poor areas where normal folk live. This map (or beginning of it) takes place in a desolate wilderness of the land known as Tel Arienni. I am planning to skin most of the units so orcs don't remain so orcish and so on.. Lot's of cybernetic stuff etc. Any feedback and questions are welcome. Gameplay should not be too hard, though it is different from WC3. Current ver: 0.121b UPGRADE LIST: - After few tries, decided to disable ranged attacks when in melee - Fixed quest receiving system, no more legions of dialog boxes - Characters receive gold from creep kills - Fixed ranged attack damage bonus - Made character improve faster on ranged attacks (still needs some work) - One custom skin added (still WIP, though) - Fixed issue with ranged attack range KNOWN BUGS: - Still didn't make subtitles set on automatically.. - Merchant stuff sell cooldowns - Ranged attack range after first shot still f*cks somehow, going to fix that as soon as possible |

Pretty cool. =) I like the combat system, it's new and interesting, and fun. =) You kinda suck with the rifle at the start, though, and because the boar things charge you, it's hard to not get a lot better at melee before you get even a little better at range. The quest thing seems bugged, though. I couldn't get the guys with the !s to say or do anything, no matter what I did. That was, until I was bombarded by god knows how many 'Accept this quest?' popups. =P I didn't even know what I was accepting. ^_^ And I couldn't check in the quest log. Another problem I had was I was running from a boar thing and I clicked to shoot, and somehow shot one of the guards, who then pwn'd me. >_< Doubt that is a problem with the engine, probably just me not being used to it. =P Anyway, overall me likes. I wanna see some more. =D |

Thanks. Yes, the quest system's still under construction. Mainly did all that stat triggering last night/this morning. Now it's well underway I'll try and fix those quest thingies. You are supposed to right click on those NPC's, worked last time I tested... Gotta look deeper into this. |

Ranged skill doesn't update, at least not on multiboard, when increasing. Also my helmet failed to register one time when I picked it back up. May want a message to turn subtitles on. When you accept the quest to get the leaves, those already in your inventory aren't counted. Button bashing the two hotkeys seems to be the best strategy. |

Right... I personally always use subtitles so no wonder I forget to mention about those. |

Cant you just set subtitles to on? |

I can, but I was not sure if there was a trigger for such since so many maps mention about that thing. |

Ah, the problem I was having would be that I had subtitles off. I checked it just now and quest text appears. The hordes of 'accept this quest' thing is that I was talking to them more than once to try and get something to happen, you should have it so you cant keep talking to them over and over when they're still talking. |

Already fixed, those talking triggers are turned off when you first talk to them and turned back on afterwards. But good thing you noticed it. |

Hehe, I've noticed some other things. =P If you shoot something once, and then run off it gives up the chase after a bit. What you can then do is run all the way across the map and then press shoot again and it'll actually work, despite being miles away. Another thing, although I doubt you can do much about it, is that when you're running down the slopes of those big hills, often trying to right click on ground that is ahead of you will target the slope behind you and you'll turn around and start running back up. All that I can personally think you could do is avoid large hills. =P It also seems that there is no penalty for shooting in melee, or if there is, it doesn't count for much. There should be some reason not to do it, like an attack of opportunity or simply not being able to do it. |

Yep, that is true about ranged penalty in melee. Haven't still had time to invent anything for that. I stayed up about 3 A.M. last night triggering the multiboard and basic combat system so I was happy to get those working :) Gotta think of something for that issue... First thing you mentioned can easily be fixed. I'll add it to my (long) list of things that need fixing :) And the hill thing's just something that shows up when using chase cam. Maybe it would be better to move cam to bir-view and zoom out so that large area would be visible. It's not as good looking, but much more player friendly decision. EDIT oh yeah, with given weapons it's clever to use melee attacks on close quarter due to higher damage and shorter cooldown, but still, it need some penalty to give some realism into it... Maybe disabling the ranged attack when enemies are too near would work best since it's hard to add cooldown (bringing the attack rate down), and there's really no point reducing damage when shooting from short distance :) |

I like the camera most of the time, but when it comes to the hills, it's annoying. Like, you can't see up them very well, also. Another thing I've noticed is that on the character sheet my ranged damage bit says something like; Base: 8-12 Skill: +3 Final: 47-51 I'm not claiming to be very good at maths, but I get 11-15... |

For the penalty thing, couldn't you make the character more vunerable in some way while shooting? Atleast from melee attacks, although there is nothing wrong with taking extra damage from other ranged attacks aswell, it'd be best if it's just melee. EDIT: I don't think the ranged damage thing is with the muliboard, though I could be very wrong. I think i did about 40 odd damage to a boar in one shot, which would suggest that is the actual damage I'm doing. |

Yeah, propably so. It's just somewhere there amongst the maths... Multiboard shows values that are used in battle so I think it's somewhere within those triggers that calculate skills and currently equipped weapons' stats... That pic was just something I'd thought to up to give the idea of what kinda sh*t I'm trying to get in order :D It's just that I really like the complexity of PnP rpgs and trying to bring some of that to this mod as well... EDIT: For the penalty... That would be easy if creep damage was also dealt via triggers, but they're just the actual damage they do... It's hard to get some percentual bonus to those attacks under certain circumstances and those are the only things that work despite characters level. Unless I make them (damage bonuses) depend on attacking units' level... That more skilled (higher level) attackers can get the most out of opponents' mistakes. |
