Wc3campaigns is to be hosting it's first week long mapping competition. All maps must be based around a theme to be announced at the start of the contest. - The contest will begin on midnight 8/9 and end on midnight 15/16 (GMT) of February. Submissions are to be made by posting in the pastebin with a heading prefixed by [Map Contest]. Any submission posted or edited after midnight of the night 15/16 (GMT) will not be counted. - Maps must be made single-handedly, and anything used created by others and/or before the deadline must be noted and shown. These will not count towards the score in themselves (and may lead to a reduction if abused), but good usage of resources may add to the map. Bear in mind that this is a week mapping contest, not a week long jigsaw puzzle. - Maps will be judged by 3 judges from the staff, with marks out of 10 for five catagories: > Origionality > Potential > Quality (eg: bugs, tooltips, etc.) > Enjoyment and replayability > General feel and ambience - The winners will given prizes of rep, with 30 rep for the winner, 20 rep for second place, and 15 rep for third place (as well as appropriate winners icons). In the event of a draw, the prize shall be shared (eg: 2 firsts and a third). - Staff may not win, to avoid suspions that would arise from one of them winning. They may enter and submit what they do, however. - The decision of the judges is final. |

I must confess though, the idea is absolutely awesome. You have no idea how happy I am that it went through. I'm in 100%, and I can't wait to know what the theme will be. Is there a certain style of map that it must be? Like AoS/TD/etc.? Or will that be disclosed at the same time the theme is? (Which I imagine would be the case) Damnit... I have to wait 16 days for it to start! Bah. -_- |

1/5 of the points are for origionality. Wouldn't be much point in limited it to a set genre, would there? |

Not really, but it could be rated on how much the map brings new stuff to the genre. |

What if I take the idea from one of my maps (maybe the systems too) and make a new map based on that? E.g. I made this map Runes of Chaos in which you cast runes to summon various spells, but at the moment the only 2 maps using it are the main rpg-style map and a seperate arena map. Would I be allowed to use that? |

The theme hasn't even been announced yet. Don't count your chickens before they've hatched. Quote:
Either way, a simple "No" would have sufficed. :P |

Look at it this way though: AoS are overdone Arenas are also slightly overdone and most of the time suck Minigames can be pretty much anything RPGs are... long to make So the only one that would be original and worth picking would be mini-game, or some other less popular genre. BUT minigame can be anything, realy, so thats like not having a genre at all. Anyway,s it's a theme and not a genre they'll be using, so it really doesn't matter. |

Allowed, yes. But bear in mind that you have to point out anything like that you use, and that you won't get as many points as if you come up with something new. |

Bear in people people tend to rep people after comps anyway. You'll get an icon as well. The times are completely clear. Midnight between two days, GMT. |
