hello people of this forums I may can get a ban for posting this but what the hell life is short k lets get to the main point.
After testing torque engine I loved it, and I started to work around that program.. so I can manage to learn all the torque has to offer...
Since last summer I played dota ant other warcraft maps and I had a small dream creating dota like independent client with more features etc etc...
well its only a dream... need to learn to much to start on such a project...
here what I want is it possible to convert/edit warcraft custom/official models
so I can use them for my own purpose besides warcraft, I know this will be kind illegal l but full credit goose along the way
But I want to practice creating something with warcraft I love the graphics so Know for my learning purpose I want alt east create a small game or just a model running. thanks for the flame guys and that for at least reading it
bye

i guess if you use custom models with custom skins and convert them to something other than .mdx or .mdl you'd be able to use them if the creator allows you to!

Let me get this straight: you want to know if you can edit wc3 models or what?

Chriz.
If he can use wc3 models and/or custom ones in a new independent program he wants to make.

well if the creator dos int know then who cares that I'm using his models, I'm not going to publish anything
just after little practice's I will show what I made in screen shots and all the credit will be given, and I won't release them until I get authors permission
Just have hard time trying to convert them

Hum, I have a question, and its about converting models...

anydoby know of a good .gmax to mdx/mdl converter? I can,t use Dexexport script, since it gives me a huge list in the MaxScript Listener, which is unfortunatly too big. And "Print to Listener" is the only option.

Oh then this has nothing to do here. Moved.
If you're making this for yourself, you basically don't need permission. If you share it then you need permission.

Something tells me a company like Blizzard doesn't give a damn about credits...
Well technically if you use their models only the people who own an original copy of Warcraft III would be allowed to play your game. Considering this, perhaps the best idea would be making your game extract (and convert) the models from a Warcraft installation in order for it to work...this way you can be somewhat sure that anyone who plays it actually own a copy of Warcraft.
Apart from that there already is an AOS (DotA=AOS) concept standalone game being worked on.

Anyway this whole thing sounds rather unusual. If you do intend to make a game like that, the least you can do is use your own models...that's just my opinion though.

well dota was juts my future plan and not with the Torque engine and from scratch but if theres such a project.. then its never mind..

Not exactly my point. Doing a game like this would certainly take a lot of effort, for that you might consider finding a team, or at least someone to do the graphics/sounds/whatever resources for you. It's pointless to create a complex game engine that depends on someone else's work.

Anyway to answer your question...yes, you can edit/convert Warcraft III models. A good example of a software which does this is Milkshape.

well its more like learning with these models... after that just find some more friends and start working for real
learning to create 3d and learning 3d/lue is damn hard..

What do you want to convert them to? If you're making your own game and you want it to use Warcraft models, why not just make it read MDXs?

mdx is the model type used by Wc3.
