Ok, with this, you can start mapping for the contest! The theme is water. The map must be based around this theme. Remember: - You must post your map in the pastebin with a prefix of "[Map Contest]". - It must not be posted/edited later than the midnight (GMT) between 15/16. - Anything used that is made by another person (it is a solo competition) and/or started before this news release must be noted, and don't abuse it. Any infringements may result in reductions in points or disqualification, at the discretion of the judges, but I hope that won't be needed. Good luck, and get mapping! |

Wow, quite an unexpected theme. Good luck to all who are entering! |

well I just got the BEST idea of what to do while taking a shower let me ask you this, you said anything made by someone else must be documented obviously, someone else doing the terrain would be pretty crappy, since that is a big part, however, me being absolutely terrible at terrain, would it be so bad to set of all the basic outline and stuff, then have someone who is good like finalize it, as it add some final doodads to really make it look god(I am guessing no... :( ) anywho, are WIP's required/wanted? |

Should it be single player or multiplayer, or whatever I like? I would prefer single play, because it allows me to use the idea I got >.< |

Anything more than imports or triggers will almost certainly lead to a reduction in points. Having someone finalize the terrain would be over the line, and the reduction in points from it would be more than you would lose by having bad terrain. I used to be appalling at terrain. Just a bit of work and now I am merely mediocre. Quote:
Not sure what you mean. Quote:
So long as it is based on water, it doesn't matter. |

I think for the WIP's thing, he is asking whether people should post up progress shots/maps/results/whatever in the thread to encourage sharing of coolness. |

Am I allowed to take graphics out of another game? (in this case crimsonland) And sounds from yet another game? |
| 02-07-2007, 07:24 PM | #8 |
It'll probably be severely frowned upon. Remember, that is still stealing. (Just like using UT sounds, for example) |

Good point. The problem I have is that normal warcraft sounds and icons are too boring, and I am no artist. |

You're allowed to use icons from the resources alsong as you credit them, aren't you? Or would that be a reduction in points thing? |
| 02-07-2007, 09:00 PM | #11 |
The thing is that I took the graphics from another game and converted them to icons (a lot of work for a noob like me). My map already has some pretty powerful trigger systems, but without the correct feel that sounds and other custom stuff gives it's almost pointless. |

No. That's illegal. We don't condone it on this site (it's actually under the globals rules). Any map with illegal content in will be disqualified. Quote:
Yea, that's perfectly fine. Quote:
I have no problem with that. Just don't then accuse people of copying your ideas. |

Are we allowed to fuze two similar themes together, such as water and electricity? Example: Lightning-based spells and heroes so that they damage the main enemy, water elementals. It would get boring doing water vs water for 20 mins... |
