I can't make MPQ View work :(

MPQ View doesn't like me. It refuses to display anything at all, apart from sometimes '(listfile)'.
Here are the steps I go through:

1. Open MPQ View
2. Open W3MListFile.txt
3. Open War3.mpq

Either there is something wrong with MPQ View, or with my War3.mpq file (which seems unlikely as I can play the game). After these steps, nothing but '(listfile)' is displayed. If I click on ANY of the filters, nothing at all is displayed. I just can't understand it. I have tried not opening W3MListFile.txt, I have tried re-downloading MPQ View, but nothing works. Someone please help me!

It appears that you use the wrong listfile. W3MListFile.txt is a generic list for W3M files (= Warcraft III maps).
You can do two things:
1) Extract the (listfile), rename it to war3.mpq.txt (or somewhat.txt) and use it as list.
2) Go to my website and download the Warcraft III listfiles.

you need either the war3 storm.dll or sfmpq.dll renamed to storm.dll in the mpqview directory instead of the sc one it comes with.

If you had read carefully what he has done, you would have understood, that it is no storm.dll problem, but a listfile problem. Otherwise I'd have advised him to take storm.dll from the Warcraft III directory.
Please don't get rude, I really think, that it's clear what he means.

knightking: It seems very appearant that he is trying to open war3.mpq with the listfile for ".w3m" files. Please make sure that you understand the whole problem before:

1) You answer it, and
2) Tell someone else that they are wrong.

as we have stated before, flame wars and flame posts or ANY post that can lead to flame war are deleted on sight without notification. If this occurs frequently, except hard actions to be taken digimonkiller! You have been warned

The rest of the posts are deleted as its inciting a flamewar, which has been proven by digimonkiller.

In question of the thread. the error is quite easy to explain. There was a time when there was a version of mpqview which had the w3mlistfile, but it included all the files of the mpq. Appearantly they uploaded the old version with a original w3m (the original came with a w3m listfile only, which shows only the w3m contents. However, we realised that this was not good at all so we added and merged the main mpq listfile with the w3mlistfile, hence a complete one) and because of the fact that the tutorials were written at the time the up-to-date mpqview was available, there is now a slight misunderstanding.

its very unlikely the dll's are his problem, as its listfile is shown. That means the program is able to read the mpq and show the listfile.

anyway, most pointless flames or seeds of flames have been removed. Keep that in mind that it drops your post count so dont Pm me about it.
