I'm working on a little CTF project of mine right now, and I've run into a dilemma. I've always been an avid supporter and contributer of Fantasy wittings and Role playing and the like and was thinking about creating a big 'ol back story for my map. This, however, does limit my freedom in character creation and my ability to make fun of DotA. So my question to you is: What is more appealing, a map with a back story to it (may not actually be apparent in the game itself, mebbe just little tidbits in item descriptions or characters, but it's still there if you want to elaborate on it) or just a more open framework of comedy, allowing for more freedom in what I can do such as "The Loincloth of Strength" Or should I make an attempt to combine a bit of comedic value here and there while still developing a back story to base it off of? |

I prefer comedy, unless the backstory is just too good to ignore (which is very rare). |

comedy and clever shit, make a fluff story to fit it all together. |

I agree with erwtenpeller. Add an item description like "The Loincloth of Strength was acquired by Arthas the Large after he had a run-in with a Ban-List User" Of course I don't play DoTA, so I know nothing about its names, but you get the idea. |

Tragic comedy, if you please. |

I much prefer having a fantasy story. Blizzards done a really nice job of balancing the two in WoW, though. Every so often an item will drop that makes you laugh. Like a [Tear Stained Hankerchief] or [The Stoppable Force] ([The Unstoppable Force] is an epic mace that was very popular before the expansion). Lots of items or quests have funny things hidden in the description, I talked to this rogue trainer/vendor in Shattrah City and she claimed she was teaching a new group of rogues how to stealth, backstab and blame breaking polymorph on someone else. It's all within the story, but manages to be funny. |
