This is the first serious terrain I have made. I am trying to get better at it so C&C please.

I need to know what was good and what is bad on this. (Yes, I know the sky is messed up on the third.)

Your terrain has too much fire. I cant imagine trying to play when i cant find my hero under a wall of embers and smoke. Not to mention walking through fire burns things, so even being on that island makes so sense.

Also, there is a tool where you can make terrain go higher than WE normally lets you. Use that next time.

However your last screenie does look nice... Keep it up.

Anything.
Have you checked out this tutorial at thehelper.net? If not, I highly recommend it because it has many good tips for those that are newer at terraining.

There are a couple things that annoy me in your terrain:
  • In screenshot number 1, you have a tree that is on fire, but it looks normal. Try applying blight onto it, and then removing the blight so the tree looks kind of dead. Work on tree placement - lava knocks trees down (i.e. dead trees in path of lava).
  • Lava moves in places more than others - on hills, put less lava, and in holes, put more lava, and even the red stone tile to show drying lava.
  • Purple gas? No thanks.
  • Too much fire and smoke. It makes things hard to see, so lighten up on that and try to use a different fire model - such as an enlarged torch, sunken under the ground or the ground burning effect for Flame Strike.
  • The red rocks in the lava don't seem to match with the sand. I am not seeing any rocks on the sand on the island - except for some patches where you put rough dirt - lava doesn't just stay on the rocks!
  • Yeah, where's he volcano again? It looks kind of like a hill which you poured strawberry syrup and chocolate chips and... Well, set on fire. Mmm... Fried Ice Cream.
  • Try to work on terrain intensity. Try out: Sand, Rough Dirt, Lava, Lava Cracks, Red Stone instead of randomly placing the titles.
