Crap in Fminor

To tell a long story in a short manner i needed to come up with a piano solo for the jazz piece Not really the Blues and while i still dont have a solo heres a 2 minute midi file that is in Fminor and all the notes i used are in the 5 1 and 2 chords of that scale I played this on my korg X50 running into Sonar to record it as a midi file and if i get around to it i'll edit it and make it better.
since im to lazy to make a new folder there is 2 songs in there the piece this thread is about is fminor the other is basically a insult thrown at my local church because of the simple music they play.

Interesting... It's very flat. Using just non-inverted triads for a progression is really uninspiring. Being a Sax, Flute, and Piano player myself, nice boring chords like that are really no fun to solo over, and I would probably fall asleep to any solo that might come out of it. Honestly.

At roughly 27 seconds in, you're playing an F+ triad. Is that part of the changes? If it is, you could really build up to it and make it sort of a break-point. At 32 seconds in, you play a Bb triad, and then it sounds like you slip into a B- triad before going back to C-. Having that little slip there helps the tune turn around and advance to the next chorus, so I would encourage you to employ some more of that (obviously not too much).

At 1:00 in, when you add in that last note in your right hand, the song gains a lot more character and flexability. At 1:35 in, I first felt the beat of the song. Albeit it was rather fast, but your mercilous triad pounding finally started to gain a beat.

Your little solos were very "out-of-time", and not really flowing with the music (even though the time was basically non-existant). I would encourage you to just play in a very simple manner until you feel comfortable playing faster/more rhythmically diverse. Even if you have to use quarter notes and some simple 8th notes, it would really open up your playing by enabling you to develop lines.

As for the ending, the splashing of chords actually sounded okay-ish, but they should be more freeform if you're going to do that. Otherwise just stick to the time. Play the notes one-by-one in an arpeggiated fashion, invert the chords, and/or play strong bass notes with the left hand.

I think your main problem is chord variation, so that's what you should work on. Just because it says "F min", you don't have to play an F, Ab, and a C. You could play F, Bb, Eb; or a low C in the left hand and an Ab, F, C with the right hand. Think about your other options.

You said this was from the song "Not Really the Blues"? Is that actually a blues song, because you really don't have a blues style. It sounds more like a Mozart concherto than a blues chart to me... I'd also like to see the chords to this song (or whatever part of it you played) to see if I have any more specific suggestions, and/or try making up lines myself.

actually you hit the nail on the head when you said it didnt sound bluesy the song is actually a very upbeat jazz song centered around the Ab, fminor, C chords however what i realized after i recorded it was that what i was missing was Bb and Gmin chords. This was far from what i was going for and that is why im completely revamping it

I see. I'd like to hear another recording of it with that in mind whenever you finish "revamping" it

Why record it as midi if you have a korg standing by with realistic sounds :|. This just.. is midi. You cant tell much from it, since its midi.

And for everything else I'd have to agree with pyro here.

I redid the whole thing i realized that i couldnt do nearly what i wanted to do with what i had so i just decided to do a solo in the Fminor Pentachord i like the way it sounds now and if anything when i play it ill play it an octave higher

oh and infrane i recorded it in midi because since its only one instrument with midi most people can open those files up and read them for the notes in them and then they can tell me where the major faults with it are.
