I am learning 3ds max, and started about 3 months ago, and this is one of the models i learned with. Its not fantastic, but I would like some feedback on the model. (It was originally modeled with a Rancor in mind (Return of the Jedi), but that does not represent the current form.) Also, I have no photoshop, or any form of skinning tool. So, please just stick to the model itself in criticism. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give, CCrew Note-This model was finished about 3 weeks after I first touched 3ds Max |

Well, not sure where to start really. First of all, I'd lose the render and take viewport screen grabs until you learn how to display your models well via render. Post a wireframe if you can, the model looks messy on ten different levels, and in some spots I can't tell what the hell is going on. If you could do that, I can give you some more critiques from there. |

that's extremely messy, not sure if I have ever seen such a messy model...actually I did. As andy said, show us a wireframe (by that we don't mean render with wireframe turned on; just take a screenshot of your viewport with edged faces turned on). |

Heh, this was my first real model. Anything before this didnt use anything i would consider sculpting, and more geometry arranging. So, ya I really dont mind that it looks messy, if I redid it now, I think it would come out cleaner and such. Thanks for the criticism (Also, I considered messing with lighting and backround, but thought the current view showed the model fine, but in the future I'll follow your advice.) This is above all a learning model, but I want to see how people react to it. Thanks for the constructive criticism, keep it coming. I assume Print Screen takes the screenshot, however I cannot seem to find where the shot is saved. If you help me there, I'll post a wireframe. |

I like the concept of it. Yea just spend about 3-4 hours cleaning it up and optimizing and you could have a good model on your hands. |

Printscreen dumps a copy of the screen into your clipboard, past it into a graphics package and save it where you want. As you say you have no high-end graphics program, mspaint will do, or you could download the GIMP. |

Mspaint will NOT do. Dl the GIMP. Its like a pimped up version of paint, or a free version of Photoshop. |

but mspaint WILL do anyways... I believe that if you weld everything it will look a lot better |

... I don't even think the GIMP is very good for screenshots, myself, least of all you have to set the X and Y of a new image to your screen res before you can paste the shot, and I'm damn lazy. MSPaint is fine for taking screenshots, and what I use most of the time, it loads faster that photoshop. |

Photoshop loads plenty fast if your computer doesn't suck. |

I load photoshop as fast as mspaint. |

I dont. But its still worth loading <3 |

before i had vista photoshop loaded faster than a druggie with a pill container, but now i have vista and it takes longer than walking from gajetzan to winterspring with rogue poison XIV |

My computer doesn't suck -THAT- bad... It's an AMD 2800+, this time, where my last was 900MHz... >_< Anyways, CS2 takes about 10 seconds to open for me, and mspaint about 1-2 seconds. Plus you dont have to make a new document to start pasting in paint. Anyway, this has got really off-topic... (P.S. I love photoshop also =D) |
