Indeed it is very classic, but they are all very plain.
Screenshot #1:
Not that plain, but the left and right could use a couple environmental doodads and maybe add some more props in the middle.
Screenshot #2,#3,#4:
Once again, very plain. All of these have doodads either in the left or right and the opposite side has pretty much nothing but a couple hills and sand. Add more doodads, even units wandering in the desert can improve these. Tile variation is good though.
Screenshot #5:
I can see you tried to keep the tile variation from being plain, but I think you over did it a tiny bit. The stone path at the bottom of the hill looks awkward, and in my opinion, the cobble stones on the hill doesn't look so great either. Maybe add a couple trees and a ship in the background.
Screenshot #6, #7:
If I had to vote what makes this look plain, it'd definatley be the background mountains. Just 3-4 rocks in the background doesn't cover it too well; I'd add more trees or more rocks in the backround. In the town, you should've changed the color of those river rushes to a more orangish color to blend with the orange/brown grass. You should also populate the town a bit also.
However, #7 screenshot looks very nice. It'd look better with orange river rushes though. :) |
