Here's the thing, I am hopeless at sticking to map making projects because I rarely come up with ideas which are small enough, yet interesting enough for me to be able to keep on working at. I always seem to have ideas which involve huge amounts of triggers and therefore, due to my novice triggering, a huge amount of loop holes. They also usually involve a huge amount of terrain, and although terraining is my fave part, I do get bored after a reasonable amount of time. So, I have atleast 15 half done maps on the go, all of which I have pretty much given up on. The one which I came most near to completion of, was one called 'Peon Island Wars'. It involved several teams, three peon teams who lived on different islands and had to destroy one another's tribes, a team of ogres, who had a food cave in the middle of the map and had to hoarde and protect their food. There was also a merchant who had to buy and sell goods to all other players, and two human expeditioners who had to destroy the ogres and peons. I stuck to this because it was a small, interesting terrain opportunity, it was chaotic during gameplay because of all the different teams and objectives, and there was a lot of room for added sillyness along the way. So, I guess what I am asking is if any1 can give me a few suggestions of a map I could try making (involving the things I highlighted above) which I will be able to complete, as I like map making alot, but I have run clean out of ideas! ![]() Cheers ![]() EDIT: Oh yes, the one on my sig is also nearly complete as you see, but that doesn't count for some reason :S |

#1Make a game that takes place inside a building. Make like 3 floors, with stairways etc (waypoints) and come up with something to do with it, like an AoS or Arena. #2, make a minigame like hungry hungry hippos. |

edit:none of the stuff below pertains to the things you just mentioned. I failed to read the "anything that applies to this map" part. At any rate I hope it can give you some ideas. One idea I would like to try but doubt I will ever get around to is a console RPG style map. The story hook I decided was you are shipwrecked in a mysterious cave (tileset northrend) and go looking for shelter from the cold. Once inside you find is is actually a deep cavern. You will only control one unit, the hero, who can become specialized in many different kinds of abilities for versatility. I think of more like Metroid Prime or other console RPG's where you obtain abilities that simultaneously allow you to access new areas (blink spell, jump ability, ability to swim, or simple key system). The customizeability is that as you level you can gain skills form 1 of 5 catergories, or "classes" if you will (healing, tanking, damage, spell damage, spell control/untility), and you have to invest fully in one kind of class skill to get the next ability, (like say learning a fireblast skill as a prereq for pyronova) Bosses would have special abilities requiring you to move about and be different from most WCIII battles (such as dodging traps the boss lays, or you have to hit switches to make him vulnerable). Finally, give the character items tailored to his "class". Such as giving him the option to take a staff (+intel for spellcasting), axe (+dmg and strength), or agile cuffs (+agil or attack speed). Make sure to include save/heal points and plenty of potion drops in case the player doesn't specialize in healing or tanking. Of course try to work on making plot driven exploration. Nothing drives a good game like using a defeated opponents skull to open a door only to find out the unit you just killed gave himself to a life of undeath to guard the creature locked behind the door you just opened. Even better, the "creature" is a spirit that raises the true inhabitants of the cave in a gorey survival situation. Anyway hope that gives some ideas |
