Why are some hidden missile models unusable in game?

Not just misiles, but effects too. Any way to make them work IN game? Example: using the alternate searing arrow model for an ability will result a spell with no special effect/missile model.

Anyone know? Thanks.

No, there is no way to get those alternate spell missile / effects to work in game. My presumption is that they exist to function as a "base" to help track trajectory for the actual FX for the other "searing arrow" missile.

You can use any model in spells, and they would render correctly, just keep an eye on animation names, some spells play death animation some play stand. Some models don't have stand/death/walk or one of those.

Also, make sure the path ends with .mdl (it doesn't matter if the model is an mdx, the path in object editor must end with .mdl)

I'm going to try this. Because I'm using WE unlimited and there's that "Extra" section for models and I usually just click on it. But then it wont' show up in the game.

Wow, Vex. That worked :D
I know you have like a million reps, but I don't think it'll hurt to have another :)
