Hi guys: After checking the Season 4 tournament ladder made by Blizzard, I was thinking that it would be a good idea to start the first AI contest at WC3C (hey, why not??). The idea of this tournament is that the contestants develop an AI for one of the WC3 standard races (AI for custom races are not allowed), and all the AI must be made with the AI editor (only .wai files are allowed). How would be the tournament?? it will be like the worldcup :)
the awards could be 30 rep for the first place, 20 rep for the second place and 10 rep for the third place. The objective of this thread is to know if there are people interested in this kind of contest and / or know how this contest could be improved or focused. I'll be looking for your comments and questions. |

COUNT ME IN!!! I've been waiting for something like this for so many years (ever since RoC is out). ![]() How many A.Is can one person submit? |

It would most definitely be awesome, but I wouldn't enter. *cough* Guys who have worked on AMAI will win *cough* |

Are you sure about that? ![]() Personally I would say anyone has the chance to win simply because it also has some elements of luck. Also, you'd have to invent strategies to combat A.Is specifically and not human players (which is AMAI's and my A.I's goal). |

Yessss but if it is .wai does tht mean we will have to JASS A.I it? (it is obvious to do so cause i want trigggered abilities) -Av3n |

The host will compile the .wai with the A.I editor's Export Script function I presume, and then proceed to test them against each other. The problem with the current format though, is that who's winning will depend on matchup instead of overall A.I skill since the A.Is won't be able to adapt and will just stick to a strategy. If it were more ladder-like it would reflect the performance of A.Is more. |

Small suggestion: I think the poll question in this topic should be "if an AI contest like this is held, do you think you will enter?" as this type of contest will need a decent number of entrys to be 'fun' (IMHO) I suck at mele, so i'll probobly loose in the small chance i learn enogh about the AI editor to enter xD |

I honestly don't like the idea. The whole "create your own AI" seems rather irrelevant in contrast to your ability to whomp AI in melee. I mean, if you want to create a melee-game tourney, then make one. If you want to create some AI contest... Just go play AMAI. >_> Dunno, to me it sounds like a really hokey idea. Nothing personal, of course. |

The AIs should not compete in an elimination system, but instead so that each AI gets to play against each other AI, the one with the most victories in the end wins. |

Well, according to the statistics, there are at least 8 participants, for me it's something good, but as you said, as more contestants, better and funnier. About your skills in melee, I think this is not a problem, the idea is that you develop a strategy through AI editor. Check this tutorial, and if you have any question, you can PM me. |

It is irrelevant since we're not asking the people to whomp the A.I. It is not a melee-game tourney. It is an A.I tourney, which is a whole lot different than a melee game tourney. Just look at how Age of Empires II A.I contest become big (and is still alive today despite being like 5 years old contest) Also, look at Battlespot.com which holds Mind Rover contests (A.I controlled rovers) |

So? I still don't like the idea. Am I entitled an opinion or are you going to argue against that too? |

Yes, that's the idea, but more organized, following a ladder style competition. Quote:
And please, don't become this a row, the purpose of this thread is to hear opinions and suggestions, not to deny or underestimate other opinions. |
