New MPQ Compression?

Is there a new MPQ compression method or something? Because when I tried to run Vex's Optimizer on the new version of DotA, and it gave me a file that was 1.25GB. >_< Same thing happens when I use the "Compact" option in WinMPQ.

This is not a thread asking how to deprotect DotA. I'm just wondering about the compression they used, if that's what caused that.

If you don't believe me, try it.

Using the optimizer on DOTA is lame considering that DOTA is already optimized, so you can't expect to know what would happen there... maybe something about wav files.

Well I was using in on a DotA AI map that isn't optimized. But the resulting file was 1.26GB. I tried it with the actual map and I got the same result.

And I've "re-optimized" maps before, it should work fine...

Well, I don't know then? DOTA AI map was cracked and possibly is still affected by whatever wav thing orig DOTA had. Can't do much without checking the actual maps.

Actually, depending on what you do with a given map in the original optimizing process, it can have interesting outcomes when you try to re optimize it. You can get anything from an unprotected map (scrambled a bit, but more or less intact) to that ridiculously huge output file and a crash of the optimizer. They probably didn't use a different compression method, just used some different options.

Define "unprotected map"

I just wouldn't expect the optimizer to rebuild GUI triggers...

I heard some guy uses the "force upper case" option to make the script easier to read.

You could also make the optimizer add a dummy imports file to allow you to edit the map script easily, it would still miss the other import data.

That's not unprotecting the map, well in my opinion the optimizer is no map protector either but that's another story.
