So, I decided I should finaly try learning to make models for Warcraft, since I've used 3D Studio Max before it felt silly to not even try making a model for fear of it being too complicated. So, here it is, an early WIP. I've read jigrael's tutorial which was originaly supposed to be about unwraping but ended up being a full tutorial about how to model a humanoid. After that, I started making a human face like in the tutorial, but once I started working I didn't really look back at it anymore so I don't think the final topology is exactly the same. So, I'm wondering how good is the result for a generic face, I was hoping I could use it as a base for multiple characters, but that's all mostly in the air at this point. I'm just looking if I can get any useful feedback on what I have so far. |

You might want to look at Ben Mathis's "Delilah" series tutorials, in which he illustrates the development of a game character from concept to fully rigged 3d model. It's an excellent tutorial series and it's also video. http://www.poopinmymouth.com/tutorial/tutorial.htm |

Only you TDR can find sites like this. "Poopinmymouth". Anyway it seems to be pretty good. Nice that you share your secrets. :D |

true, but i have a bad internet connection, takes ages to load the videos... btw, very nice face! if you dont like animating you can use profet'S import script now to import and tweak anims, did that already and is quite nice! |

I'm no modeller, but aren't triangles generally bad practice and poorly rendered in WC3? I seem to recall TDR going insane about always using 4-sided polygons and nothing else. |

TDR says that it doesn't matter much on low poly models. Anyway I try to avoid trigons. However never have 5+ polygons. |

Thanks for the links, TDR, those tutorials are interesting to watch, although his "low poly" is pretty high for wc3 standards. :) Anyway, here's an update, I added some more detail to the cheeks, finished the forehead and moved some vertices around to get a slightly different shape, so it's now a male face. |

looks nice but there are a little slit between the 2 parts of face... and it's visible ! thats not good... (are you training for your cinematic ? :D ) |

Here's another update, I added the back of the head and the neck, the first one has too many polies but most of it will get deleted when I'll put stuff on top of it like hair or a hat/helmet, I'll try to make those lower poly. Not sure how to do the ear properly, though, just with a single polygon and try to make it with the texture alone, or should I model it? Edit: Added a helmet to the face, based on an old concept sketch. |

Quick update, started working on the torso and shoulders. Yay for more wasted polies which won't be seen after I add the shoulderpads and the cloak. How do you count poligons in 3ds max? I got tired of doing it manualy. |

Your face is too tall, find a good reference and re-examine the anatomy. |
