Some Compsitions

These are for the cinematic contest, so musicality is not that important, but the mood is. So, to test this, I would like you all to reply with what type of mood you think each is (that way I know they do their job).

PS: I think there will be 1 more coming, so when I do make it, I'll post it here.

The first one is very boring, and that percussion part with the snare drum is, pardon me, just horrendous. I would say that it has an anticipatory and/or warlike feel. Like there are some village militia who are going to defend a town.

It reminds me of some Final Fantasy intro music, though far less epic.

The second tune is loads better! The strings with a flute (?) over it works very nicely, and it gives it a nice, relaxed, gentle mood. It's not edgy or extreme in any way. It sounds like perfect cinematic music, and it reminds me of something you'd hear at the loading screen of (yes, I know) a Final Fantasy game.

All-in-all, the second tune is great, but the first needs more work.

By that, do you mean that you know nothing about music theory? No idea of intervals, triads, chords, melody, or changes?

Okay, what could be changed to make it less boring and horrendous? (keep in mind the song isn't supposed to be cheerful like the other one).

Correct, its a Double-Base, Classical Guitar and Flute.

Well, I'm in a band in school, but I play percussion, so I've never had to learn them. I do know some basics though and play a tad bit of guitar, but intervals, triads and changes I do not know of by name.

Its usually whatever appeals to me and a lot of using my piano to find nice chords.

The first does repeat itself once, completely, and that's pretty boring for an instrumental. To have it repeat itself right away is not ok. However, if you put the last part in the middle instead, breaking up the two repeats (maybe changing the second one a bit to end off well) then it would sound much better.
I listened to the second one which was good, but I found that even it repeated a bit...however that's ok. So, I liked that one a lot, good job.

Repeats happen quite a bit in music, and my repeat is only 4 bars (some songs repeat whole sections 4 times). I cannot change the order of the sections though, cause it fits the cinematic and what is happening on the screen.

Keep in mind that the first song will have sound effects and what-not on top of it, so it won't be the only thing you hear (more to set a mood).

It repeats a lot more than the first song! The whole classical guitar line (minus the 8 bars in the change of progression) is copied over and over (I think over 10 times) and the flute is copied 3 times.

PS: The first song isn't supposed to feel good, so if people are having problems with it, thats a good thing

The constant guitar repeat isn't what people notice in music. It's the solo part that makes a song sound repetitive or not. That's why the second song sounds like it repeats less.
