Since there's not much activity anymore, what about a weekly modeling lab so that the hardcore geomergers could actually learn something new? A theme is chosen, everyone make his entry, and get criticism, advices and buttrep. Who's up for it? |

No reason why not. Can't guarantee I'd chip in actual entries, though. |

Likewise, count me partially in. |

Allright, let's try it. First session: make a face. This will help you to understand the importance of proportions in the facial features. The goal is simply making something that looks as different as possible from the base model. You can do model editing, use ingame textures, or do everything from scratch if you like. You might even actually do something nice by just moving some vertices around, without removing or add any mesh, but remember that the more you do, the more you learn. There are no restriction on the races of the characters either (non-human races are easier to modify!). I'm attaching some pics for examples and inspiration. The first is obviously a paladin with some different proportions. The second is totally from scratch, both model and skin. The third is a modified doomguard head. The fourth is from scratch, using Medivh's texture. They are just examples of different levels of editing, I'll make a proper entry later. :p Simple enough for you all? |

Are we allowed to submit pictures of models we've already done? Anyway, here's some faces I've done. The first two are for a Forgotten Realms project that I abandoned a long time ago. The first is Drizzt Do'Urden, and the one after that is a Drow Elf Spell Thief. The next one is the hero of my current project, Kelendras Stardragon, who, I personally think, looks like the wc3 version of Christian Bale. And the last one is my Draenei Paladin, who's head I made out of Archominde. That one required lots of vertex and skin modifying to make it look how I wanted. |

This is a poor theme. Modifying a model to change a face slightly is both poor for skill (just make it from scratch) and poor for custom maps ( a whole new skin is a smaller file). |

There are people here who barely do anything but geomerging and rewrapping, making heads from scratch is just out of question for now. This activity is for pratice purposes only, just fucking forget about the filesize of the product. |
