very cool. if you're gonna have broken stone wall pieces like that, you should prolly make some fully intact ones too. |

Are you going to put an inside to the house or something? It looks a little odd that there's a black hole for a window with no inside. Also, what's the inside look of the walls of the house? The houses themselves look kind of meh. Maybe it's because it's from far away, so you notice that though the rocks look realistic, there's no bump map to make them rocky. Or, now that I look at it, maybe it's because the texture's lighting doesn't match WC3's odd-job. And /agree about the stone wall portions. |

You have to an inside for the houses yourself. They're not supposed to be walkable, so you'll have to usre an inside region somewhere else in the map. And please define: Quote:
otherwise you should wait until you can use them ingame, they look a bit different like in the previewer. €: And to the inside... Only houses of people who had some money had glass windows, the rest had some windowshaped holes in the wall. And since this houses are rather lowpoly i decided it's best only to put a black hole there. You wouldn't notice a inside szene of the house ingame anyway... so why spend time to such details if they hardly got noticed? €2: Yes, i can do some intact walls. |

Wow thats amazing i hope you make more ! |

It all looks great, but to make it look 10x better, you should make the edges of the roof look more... err... I forgot the word. But make it look jagged by adding see through areas and holes by the edges to make it look more real and less blocky. [edit] You should also make other things found in castles, dungeons and even villages; such as that stretching table, gallows, those beheading things. What about more indoor doodads? like beds, windows, etc. +rep of course ^^ |

I'm sure the camera angle will fix it. Atm it just looks kind of "flat". I don't know how to explain it. It's just one question I had--do the walls of the house have any depth or are they paper thin? I can't tell from the screenie...except, on a second look, it looks like they do have depth, though it's kind of misleading because the corners of the box meet "perfectly" together at a sharp 90 degree angle, so the stones wrap and the house looks flat. It almost needs some decals around the outside of the house to draw attention away from the fact it's a depth'd and well textured box. Easiest way to do is add pillars, but I know people back then didn't usually do so--they just had a couple noticeable stones jutting out of their walls and some imperfect angles. Oh, and I did not at all mean to suggest you put glass in the window. I know full well windows were simple holes back then. That's not what I meant to ask about ![]() Quote:
Guillotines would be oddly out of place. I'd thumbs up making gallows though. I wouldn't use it, but it would be a useful village model to have. Would be a great doodad to add. Oh, and the roofs look fine--it's the walls that don't. |

Cameraangle would only fix it if you use a first person cam... and arrowkeymovement sucks hard. ^^ The problem with the inside is that it would take polys... and by polys i mean A LOT of polys. At least 1000 polys more. I don't know how much you know about 3d meshs but it's apparent that the walls of the houses are only planes. And i think the only way to make it look more "rocky" are bumpmaps (which wc3 doesnt know) or to model those walls as walls, but that would take 100x more polys... You have to keep in mind that those models are rather lowpoly... even for me. The highest polycount of the buildings is sth with 260... even a wc3 building has more. The only thing i can do is the thing with the stones jutting out of the walls.. Imperfect angles do already exist, you notice them better when the camera is in motion. And i didnt understand the thing with the pillars... ^^ Well if you had taken a closer look to this gallery you would have already seen this: http://wc3campaigns.net/showthread.php?t=92332 ^^ |

Actually what I was talking about is controlled through the skin of the roof. Just make it look like it has holes on the edges by making 'holes' by filling in black pieces, as if you were skinning a cloak for example. More Ideas: You can make a tent, ships(boats, such as battleships or transportships), trebuchet and/or catapault (would probably need animations though :\), and a wooden tower (Palisades and Palisade Tower) |

I like the tree alot. The houses i think you have made some better but they're still cool ;) |

Tents are a very nice idea, i think i'll make some. Ships and catapults etc won't fit into the pack i think, it should mainly contain more environment doodads and so on... Palisades and a tower are already done if you take a look to my last screenshots... ^^ |

Ah alright. More ideas: Flags, Flag on wooden pole, bones(skulls), destroyed buildings, huts(made of wood and stones I suppose; watch the movie Braveheart), a forge, anvil, and some boxes. |

Yeah, now that I think about it, a couple polies for a couple jutting out stones would work. Anything to make the texture define itself more. Now that I look at it, I can see the imperfect angles and they're noticeably good looking on the top of the roof. Still, some jutting out stones would make the house look better I think. And yes, 260 polies is small enough it can be sized up. All of my creations range from 600-2000 polies. I tend to mass 600 poly models (without lag too--and they even have a particle emitter), but use 2000 poly models sparingly. I think it would matter to add around ten-twenty jutting stones out of the walls. They're particularly needed on the short widths of the rectangular houses (would of course be nice to have a couple on the backside, because camera angles will tend to show them every now and then). Oh, didn't you already make an anvil, btw? I'm thinking that's crucial to make- if you didn't make it yet (everyone loves a sexy anvil that actually looks like an anvil) ![]() |

Yes i already did one. I suggest first to look at the things i already made .. ;) Thx for the Ideads/critism |

I did--but I didn't realize I completely didn't notice the gallows you made. Is there only two threads including this one, or are there more? I don't remember seeing any others. |
