New to texturing, does this look good?

This is supposed to be a tail covered by shell segments with a sting at the end. This is my second texture ever and I don't know if it's good or not so I ask for your opinion.

One what are you making? Two did you use filters? Three it doesn't really look like shell. More like rock

Booh I can't paint a shell. :'( Horseshoe crab shell lookes like green color with a little noise but that doesn't look well on the model. :<

it's not about the damned shell, it's about technique! If you don't have general technique you don't have anything. All the rest comes from observation. I mean how damned hard can it be to look at a bug's shell and study it's material? Look at how glossy it is, what color variation, surface detail (maybe little bumps) and so on. I'm telling you, set up your technique first.
