Hello everyone... ive been working on a map project for quite some time and decided to get some feedback about the general idea of it. XD You see, im quite a fan of the popular Battleships series, and ive decided to pick up that idea and add in loads of my own ideas and innovations. I dunno if these ideas have been done before but... some feedback would be nice. \= ( the general idea is still Battleships... ) Map name : Age of Sail Size : Small Certain aspects of the game First of all you start with a rookie ship. Your ship does not have '' repair rate/sail speed/etc etc '' as its stats. Instead, you have ''Captain's Stats'' . The information for each stat is also shown in the game. * Mechanic ( + 50 hp per point, +1% regen per point ) - Refers to a captain's understanding of his ship's structural integrity and how to properly maintain it. * Navigation ( +1% sailspeed per point ) - Refers to a captain's ability of maneuvering his ship. * Command ( +50 manpower / +1% mpower regen per point ) - Command refers to the leadership factor of a captain. Higher levels of command allow a Captain to better manage his ship's manpower. These stats do NOT increase as your ship levels up. I wont be explaining how you increase them yet, you will know when u try the map. XD Stats are also carried over as you change ships. Captain skills Each ship will have 4 skills ( max level of each skill is 10 ), just like an average warcraft hero. In addition to those, you will have a Spellbook named Captain Skills. There are 8 captain skills in that spellbook, and each will have a maximum level of 5. Each time a ship levels up, it gets a skill point and 1 lumber. The lumber is spent on captain skills ( purchased from npcs ), while the skill point is spent on the ship's skills. Your ship level is retained when u change ships. It might look confusing, but its actually simple. An example : I am a level 1 frigate. I just leveled up, and now i get 1 skill point and 1 lumber. I spent the skill point on a hero skill. Now i return back to the main harbour and spend the lumber point on a captain skill. Since ive got the money, i decided to buy a destroyer. I realized my current ship level ( level 2 that is ), my stats and my captain skills are retained when i change ships. Also, my hero skills have been reset. ___________________________________________ And now down to the ships themselves Ships are classified into 3 categories : 1.) Navy issue ships - Frigate, Destroyer, Cruiser, Battlecruiser, Battleship These are the standard ships of the game. They do not require advanced captain skills to use them. Think of them as '' the basic line. '' 2.) Specialist Ships - Stealth Frigate, Interceptor, Assault Battleship, Fleet Command Battleship, Field Command Battleship, dreadnought, logistics ship These are ships that are designed to fill certain tactical roles and require more advanced captain skills to use them. Examples : I. ) Dreadnoughts have the role of bombarding structures and towers. So they gain a damage and range bonus when using SIEGE type weapons. II. ) Assault battleships are designed for all out combat and to break enemy fleet formations. So they gain a damage and attack speed bonus when using CLOSE RANGED weapons. 3.) Cargo Ships - Cargo Ship, Auxiliary Cargo Ship These are the ships traders use. The auxilliary version can actually be used for both trading and combat. ( it has 8 slots ) Useful when pirate npcs and players are plaguing your trade business. _________________________________________ I can explain more if u dont understand any part. Currently this map is solo work, with a few ship models i have downloaded from wc3campaigns and The Hive Workshop. Progress : Most of these have been worked out and a playable beta will be released very soon. A few custom ship models have also been used. ( each ship uses a different model, no colour tinting here )Thanks for reading ! |

How about converting those tga to jpg or any other web friendly image format? |

Sounds interesting. imo you should be able to pick captains with special abilities. |

Ok deleted the post and added in jpeg images. XD Seruk that might be a good idea. Currently everyone starts with the same set of 8 skills.... here they are : ( names might subject to change, some of them sound a little goofy. )1. Sailship Mastery * +2% sailspeed per level * Higher levels are required to use better ships ( example : battleships require this skill at level IV ) 2. Advanced Sailship Mastery * +100 to max Hullpoints per level * Requires Sailship mastery level V * Higher levels are required to use specialist class ships 3. Commerce * Bonus income and experience when conducting trade activities 4. Trade Relations * Requires commerce level V * Same bonuses * Allows the use of Auxilliary cargo ships 5. Personal Fleet * Allows the purchase of personal ships * +1 maximum ship allowed per level 6. Master Mechanic * +3 to Mechanic stat per level 7. Expert Navigator * +3 to Navigation stat per level 8. Commisioned Officer * +3 to Command stat per level Ill rethink them back and see if i can add special '' captain specific'' skills Any simple suggestions ? |
