My first Photoshop skin.. :)

Hi guys! Just bought a CS3 yesterday and after a few hours of meddling and playing with it I did my first skin.

I'm glad to say that my skills improved quite alot, especially with armors, though my skills are still not pretty good like the experts. And I'm also glad that I never have to use smudge again :)

I liked using green so I made his upper armor green and leg armor silver. And I also gave him a brown cape.. Obviously..

So do I suck with PS or did I get better with it? Also please comment on the skin, I might actually take it more seriously and make it a "real" skin instead of a "test" skin.

So, what is it supposed to be?

I like how you got those 4 green pieces of armour to have 4 different tones of green.. good consistency...

A generic guy.

No but actually, I just made him for testing purposes. I take him on more seriously, though I need some inspiration.

Is that supposed to be sarcastic? :/

...yes
Make his armor one color
Sharpen up his hair
And do something with that leg armor
It offends my eyes
Make the highlights on it a lil more

Whoops forgot to use the sharpen filter >_>

Don't forget to vote for the poll, that's what I need the most :/

Considering your previous texture of the Blood Mage (right?), this is an improvement. But there is still much work to be done.

As for suggestions:
Recreate the lion badge (to something else), because part of the model was made for it. You can see that there's a little part of his lower stomach peeking out :P
Perhaps add some more details on the armor and such, it's too boring atm.
I know you just got Photoshop and all, but try and play around with it :)
You seem to be doing the highlights & shading fairly well I think, although they could be adjusted a bit. But you're on the right track, just keep practicing.

The Armour mainly needs more detail and better shading.

And the hair needs a lot more contrast.

When I get bored I'll try and make another piece.. With an actual theme :)

I agree on everything you said except on this line :

If I did then Dusk would come along here again and say I need more color. All of my skins were monotonous, just like what he said. This one wasn't quite monotonous now isn't it?

I'll try to find time to create my 2nd piece :) I'm still quite new to PS.

Asking you to make the armour one colour was probably piggy-backed onto my comment. Your green armour is 4 different tones. The grey armour doesn't need to be green, but the green pieces should at least pretend to be the same material as to portray some kind of uniform in his outfit. It looks like he got his armour from the charity shop.

I feel like going crazy, so tunayt, I r gonna skin a random unit in a 1024x1024 size and I r gonna be finishing it no mattor wut!

If I can finish tat then I r going to skin another unit in bigger size :P

EDIT: On second thought make that 2058x2058..

Even Erwt tops out at 1028x1028.
Past that I don't think there's even a point.

All you're doing is sizing up the canvas and using larger brush sizes.
Unless you plan to be able to put the detail room to good use then there's no point.

Well I've already started and what the heck, it's looking pretty awesome :P

I have some secrets of my own that adds detail in a jiffy.

Expect to see a WIP tomorrow.

How do you expect to make a good skin in that size if you can´t even draw properly in 256x256? The resizing process is made because that way your mistakes are less apparent, but photoshop doesn´t make miracles.
