Undead Lord Garithos

Now I realize that there is an already extensive zip of undead hero skins. But I did this for 2 reasons; 1 - I felt like making my own skin, 2 - I thought it would be a good skin to show the step-by-step I said I would last time I did a skin.

Yesterday I watched the Unsung Legends tailer, and I got a sudden urge to make a campaign. I started thinking.. what characters could play a role?.. After thinking up a few things I felt I couldnt leave a bastard like Garithos out of the picture. And thought.. well.. Undead Garithos.. Who would he serve?.. Scourge?.. he hated them and serving Sylvanas.. well that was just pointless since he hated her. That gave me plenty of ideas for having him as a villain.. and part of a story. SO.. I decided to make the skin.

Using the technique I used before, I wanted Garithos to look like the Undead Knight. This is how it was done;

looking good, Sinister. its funny because i was making one just like that a few weeks ago and its about 90% finished... argh damnit! why is it that every time i have an idea for a skin, someone else makes one just like it and releases it before me?

nevertheless, its looking very good

Nice technique, but I always hated the arthas skin, so this doesn't seem too appealing to me.

I was always waiting for someone to do this
Garithos is def a player for the Scourge now
Nice job Sinister

Also why a lack of runes in the final outcome?

Ah!.. you noticed. Good question.. the runes on the axe were a good idea. But when i began testing the skin i saw that they got stretched in the middle section of the axe (the centerpole of the axe uses the texture of the actual axe).. so i got rid of them.

The skin is very monotone. From looking at your methods it seems like a lot of the change from the original to the new is from recoloring. I like the horse skull though.

Yes, it's about as monotone as the Death knight skin. An the recoloring yes a lot of the change is that, standard Blizzard art practice. The skin isnt a shinning example of how to make a new skin, it's an example on how to style an exisiting skin to the style of another.

I could have done many more changes, but this was something that I put together just for the sake of pointing out the "bases" of doing it WC3 style. It immitates the skin of the death knight.. looking at the skins and models side to side, they are the same style.. that was the goal.

Like Will pointed out, the death knight skin isnt the best skin in the game, the model isnt either. Im ok with it.. it's not great but i'll buy it. So the goal was to show how to get from point a to point b.

This isnt so much a "look at this skin" thread. It's a "how to" thread, using not my exclusive method, but a method that has been used by many and by blizzard artists themselves, only some people dont know about it.

But on that note. Here is another variation;

Zoom (requires log in)

With removed neck armor, alpha out pointy mane and now has a droopy mane death knight style. And other changes.
