Question on UV Unwrapping

Hello there, guys! You see, I have a, let's see, 2 year old model here (my only one, really), and I was never able to finish it. My problem? Well, I just couldn't have this UV Unwrapping thing right. Browsing through my PC, I decided to try my hand at it, and looked at both unwrapping tutorials around here. Well... My problem persists. This is my last cry for help. Even though I really liked how the model turned out, I'm getting really tired of trying everything about unwrapping and nothing working... First, a little backstory:

The model is finished. I made it in several meshes, each for a body part, just like aznwhore said in his tutorial. I attached each to a different bone, so I could animate through them. Then, the next obvious step would be making a texture for the model. But first, I need to unwrap my model... So I start trying. After much effort, I finally start to get the hang of it: I can unwrap my model in angles similar to those used by Blizzard. Wonderful, except for one thing: I must unwrap all the meshes individually. And since I have no clue where the other meshes are going to be, I just can't get it right. Then I asked here if there was a better way to do it. Some one told me about LithUnwrap, and so I tried it out. It works fine, but I am only able to get separated body parts no to mess with others, and, of course, match the left/right parts of the body so they will get the same part of the image when they are texturized. So yes, no full body "portrait". I left the model in the fridge for a looooong time after then. But today, I decided to try my hand at it again. Gladly, there was a new tutorial here, by jigrael. I read it, and it became obvious she used a completely different way to model here mesh. Then I decided it was time for drastic measures to match hers: I merged all meshes in a single one, deleted half of the model and mirrored it. Now I was ready to start. I followed her, step by step, and was able to do it! Nice, I thought, finally I got it. WRONG. After I finished, I canceled the mirroring, merged both halves and dossociated the different parts of the body, so I could FINALLY start animating the model. What was my surprise when I discovered that, when my model was once again segmented, the UV Unwrapping was lost? Then I despaired and came here.

Well, it turned out as a BIG backstory, but that summarizes it all. I have no clue what to do. Could someone help me out? Any advice is appreciated!

well first of all, from now on I suppose you realized that the process is model->unwrap->texture->rig->animate, not unwrapping and texturing after the rigging is done.

Now before you canceled the mirroring, did you collapse the modifier stack? If you didn't do that, then of course the uvw unwrap modifier was lost. Always collapse all after you do your unwrap, so it will stick to the mesh no matter what. I think that's what you did wrong. If you did collapse the stack, then I have no clue :P

Hmmmmm, I guess that's what I did wrong. Could you please point me out how to do that with screenshots? My Max is in Spanish, and I really couldn't fid out how to do that T_T

EDIT: Nevermind that, I could find it out! Now let's see if I can separate models parts...

EDIT2: Wooohooo! It worked! Thanks a lot, man! One last thing, is there anyway to export the map for skinning other than print screening it?
