WC3 Map Protectors

As I have recentlyu learned the hard way many of the WC3 map protecting tools can easily be un-protected by appropriate software. Is there anyone that knows of a TFT protector tool that a) does not have a map deprotector or b) is know through experience to be extremely secure. Preferably something you personally have used.

What is this map protecting you are talking about? And what is this un-protecting thing?

The closest thing to "map protection" I have heard of would be encrypting the map and requiring a hacked version of warcraft III that decrypts the map before playing it. But I don't think that was implemented yet.

If you scroll down you will see a link to dl a map protector prog. There several of these available from different sources. They are commonly used to prevent other people from editing maps released on b.net DotA uses one, as do many other maps.

Are you serious? You must have heard something about it.

Edit: WTF Vexorian? I just found, on another forum, that you're the author of a map protector . . . . . .I'm sorry but if this is a joke it's extremely dumb.

Use Vex's map optimizer, or anything else that removes wc3map.j

I tried to unprotect some maps a long time ago(yeah I know, I'm such a lowlife) but most TFT unprotectors can't unprotect maps with missing wc3map.j

Deprotect for example, and alot of other hacks. You can unprotect them, but you can only edit the terrain. You won't be able to see custom object data or triggers without war3map.j

I only unprotect maps for my convenience :P But I do not steal(or atleast, will never steal again) stuff included in the map.

We prefer to call it "map optimizer".

And Vex is right, there's no real map protection, as long as wc3 can open a map people can edit it, of course optimized and obfuscated maps can be very difficult to edit, to a degree that nobody actualy does it, but it's not impossible.

There are many common ways to "protect" a map. But yeah, protection is never 100%. Anyway, you can do stuff like obfusicate the map script (make it REALLY hard to read and understand-- on the level of nigh impossible.), hide the map script (i think its "scripts/w3map.j"), delete world-editor only files within the map archive (easily reversable), do weird stuff to a map that makes it crash WE but not WC3... theres allot you can do to a map to make it really hard to edit.

But, as we develop new techniques to "protect" maps, the n00bs develop new ways to deprotect maps. Truly, the best way to "protect" a map is to host it often, submit it to sites like WC3C, THW, ext. Get it out there with your name on it.

I do have a way of extracting skins from a protected map :) But only I know how to do it :P

If you want "protection" use Vex's optimizer, though I recall seeing a tutorial on how to "unprotect" maps that are "protected" by the Optimizer..

I second that.

Also, I heard long ago that ToB was copyrighted ??

Of course you do realize that there are programs developed for this purpose (extracting models/skins from protected maps)?

> anything else that removes wc3map.j
That would make the best protection indeed...not even WC3 would open that as a map can't run without war3map.j.

vex's map optimizer is the best program. Since it's not about protecting maps, it just make maps smaller. But that also make it impossible for WE to open.

But stealing other's stuff is still 100% possible. And open Dota is pretty easy.
But stealing other's stuff without persomission and change credit to you is totally unacceptable.

Protecting maps is only to prevent noobs to give themself credit, since they love to do so... And most of them are about 13-15 years old

Oh you so cool! We've been here for 4 years, but you're obviously so much better at everything than us!

The main objective of the optimizer is to prevent GUI rebuilding, since Jass to GUI convertion is an abomination, so I think it is a success...

--

The current "l33t hax0rz people" that think they are (un/de)protecting maps are, just silly guys, they just add triggers to the map or change the title, not like that's any difficult, but the real deal is that it is easy to make a map that would render their efforts useless, seriously, it is just to know that what they do is adding GUI triggers to the map, after understanding that there are thousands of things you can do to stop them.

Feanor: That "map protector" in the list is very old, a 2 years old could open your map after you use it...

Well if you use an unprotectore, Deprotect for example, it would popup an error saying "Could not find war3map.j"

It's because I used my brain Whitehorn. I discovered something fishy with PowerMPQ, but if I'd explain that I would've taught all of you how to haxx0rs and steal shit from other maps.

The other day I was looking for one CD, couldn't find it either.
Most likely it doesn't exist anymore...right?
