Flashbang Grenade in ET?

Hey Gadden + Infrane,

First of all, I love your map. I've just spent the last like, 40 mins trying to find an ET in the public game list. I like the new shotgun, but I think it needs to be buffed and have more damage.
Ok, i'll get to the point. I was playing counter-strike earlier today, and the thought struck me - why not have a flashbang grenade in Elimination Tournament? You would just need one of them white mask things, which gains more transparency over time until you can't see it at all. It would work like it only affects people whos rifleman is within 300 or so of the grenade, and it lasts less time based on the distance from the grenade to the unit. So you would make it fade out over distance between grenade and unit / 100 seconds. And you could also add an additional factor - the direction the unit is facing. Instead of having to run away from a flashbang as soon as you see one thrown, you just turn away, and the blinding effects will lessen. This will make players of Elimination Tournament need some good reactions, as it is quite hard to shoot an enemy while blinded for 3 seconds.

I haven't really thought about this one, but maybe a smoke grenade as well? I'm not sure what it would really do, but maybe make all the enemies in the smoke have worse aiming or something. I dunno, you can think of something for it.

Hi, thanks for your response =). There was actually a flashbang in Elimination 3,1 (the prequel to Elimination Tournament) which worked just like you just described. We've discussed adding it to Elimination Tournament but no final decision has been made. The flashbang from Elim 3,1 never used unit facing though, and it also affected players through walls. Having a more advanced version in ET that used unit facing and walls would be a quite fun addition!

Smoke grenade would be alittle too much like the current "Gas grenade", we try to keep items as seperated as possible.

Woah, thanks for your speedy response. I think a flashbang would add a bit more of an element to the game. It would be very useful to stop campers, who just sit there without paying much attention, so you just chuck a flashbang in front of them, they get blinded, you run up behind them, they're dead.
Oh, sorry, I forgot about the Gas Grenade. Well, as I said, I hadn't thought about it too much. I think the unit facing would be very easy to make, as you would just get the angle between the units within 300 or so of the grenade, and the facing angle of that unit, do some simple maths, and boom - you have a flashbang grenade working.

Is there any way to make the gas grenade lag less? My 2ghz computer gets extremely choppy when one (let alone two) goes off anywhere on the map. I don't even have to look at it to get the choppiness.

We know how to make it, the discussion is whether it is an addition or not :)

I can see how gas 'nade can lag, I guess infrane will read this and decide whether to make it lag-friendlier.

Hmm, my laptop is 1.73 ghz and I don't feel way too much lag, just a bit. Any lag is bad lag though, as it can really piss people off when a few of them get used at a time, and even sometimes make people leave when they complain about lag. The game definately needs more items. It has got enough weapons in my opinion, but not enough cool items. i usually find myself buying nothing apart from grenades, and I have never, in any game of ET that I have played, bought a MedPack or a camera. I think that grenades need a slight nerf on their damage, and other items that aren't used often need a bit of a buff.

The lag should be reduced greatly in 1.4+

if you have never bought any other items thats really your fault only. Camera is EXTREMELY handy, not only for you, but for your team, and medpack saves you after a snipershot.

Yeah.
Grenades don't need to be debuffed. It does a lot of damage to nearby enemies, if you suck at throwing grenades, grenades won't help much. If you're a pro, grenades arn't too much of a problem.

Still, I thik that the gold is much more well spent on a grenade. Because half the time I get a kill with a grenade, so basically I spend 30 gold for 1 or 2 kills.

True, but instead of healing the damage you took from a sniper shot, why not just get an extra grenade to kill the damn sniper? Sry, I really like grenades, so I tend to think that other weapons suck compared to grenades (it's just so dam cool when you throw a grenade at someone, and they get blown like 10 metres away when it explodes).

But back on the topic of flashbang grenades, what do you think about them TheCrystalBlade? Then instead of getting a grenade to kill the sniper (and anyway, snipers usually camp on high up areas where there are ramps going up to them, so the grenade will probably just bounce to lower ground) youy can throw a flashbang in front of them, and they get owned. Except if they were good at ET, they would quickly turn away to lessen the blinding effects. Go the flahshbangs!

Flashbangs WOULD be a good idea, personally (self opinion) a lot of people would get angry bout' this, saying "WHAT THE HELL?" or something in all caps. Its happened before, killing a guy with a Lazer with a triple bounce while he stood there using A Mini-Gun. Other than that, it sounds pretty good.

Please realize that "winning" is defined by ending the game victorious, not getting most frags. You don't gain gold from buying a grenade and getting a frag with it, you loose gold. What you gain is a +1 on the killboard.

A camera, on the other hand, can give your whole team a huge tactical advantage.

1 camera <-> 2 'nades

I'm not saying you should buy 4 cameras if you have 120 gold, since you only need 1-2 up simoultaneously and their duration is like 2 min. I usually just buy items randomly and use them as the need arises in combat XD

Yeah, one camera is better then 2 grenades, tactical advantage and all. But, I rarely care bout' that.
