So I'm in a bit of a fix. My friend, Nubcookie, recently had a harddrive failure and lost all of his copies of his map, Archers: CTF. Thus, I have come here to ask for some help in salvaging at least part of the last protected copy of the map that we possess. The original thread for the map can be found here, and hopefully he will come by soon and verify that I do indeed have his permission for this. As far as he can remember, optimized the map with Vexorian's Map Optimizer and says he protected it first; I would imagine he used one of the mainstream protectors. Here's a screenshot of the error the World Editor gives when the map is opened, in the hopes that that may give some clues as to what was changed/removed with the protector: I (we) would really appreciate some help salvaging at least part of this map such that we don't have to start from scratch again. What can we do? |

I can't guarantee your safety here when you talk about un-protecting a map. However, you seem to have enough reason to do it... |

I know that it's not supported here... but we have reason, need, and approval. |

I approve of this... We're still recovering corpses and old files from the great hdd crash of '07. Tragic. Quite tragic. |

if its been hit by vex's map optamizer, it may be best to ignore recovery of the script and start over. Vex has done such a good job making that thing kill all hope of reasonably recovering a maps script to an easily editable state. As for getting a map to a usable state in WE again, google "deprotect". needs windows ;P but it will save allot of time and effort. I pray for you in hopes that it isn't widgitized. |

Are Optimized maps' trigger/terrain/object data salvagable using WinMPQ? And he's tried a few deprotectors already. |

Consider this topic closed until further notice. We do not support deprotection of maps for ANY purpose. There are no reasons to break it. As a mod you really ought to know that. PS: You could take it to PM. But not on the open forum. |

We do not support discussion of map deprotection in any form. Even if this is a 'noble' cause, any contributions can educate others for their less desirable deeds. And so forth. You could try PMing people knowledgable in the area or perhaps the IRC channel when it is back up. Open discussion is not allowed. EarthFury is also right in that it may be less effort to reconstruct from scratch. Closed. |
