I had to make this for computer graphics for university. We were supposed to use both AutoCAD and 3ds max to do it, but since I don't know shit about AutoCAD (despite that they tried to teach it to us) and I hate it, I made it in max only. THE CONCEPT IS NOT MINE. We had to pick an already existing staircase and model it. I chose this one: http://www.dnastair.co.uk/images/spi...les-nest02.jpg The model may look daunting, but it's actually very, very basic modeling and a lot of arraying. Nothing too fancy or something. Rendered with maxwell render with hdri environment lighting. |

Basic or not, it looks pretty slick. That last render bugs me though, i think theres a bit too much grain in there and the way the grain is placed doesnt really vibe for me. |

It's not like I place the grain where I want. And it's due to the short render time. I rendered these in the night before I had to hand them in, so my time was very limited. In fact this last grainy one was rendered in the morning, right before I left for uni. |

omg0x a floating staircase! @_@ Looks great IMO, at first I thought it was a professional photo of stairs. Noticed it was a model after looking at link :P Nice work, even as basic as you say it is, I could never model like that... mainly because I've never modelled before ;] |

How long do these renders take? Did you actually make a texture for it? Or does the render do that too with settings? |

there's no textures, just materials. One of the renders took 20min (I think the middle one), another around 5 hours (first one) and last one around 1 hour I think. |

So uh, what did you do those 5 hours? |

5 hours?! Very nice though, but I have to ask, what's the polycount? |

The polycount is highly irrelevant, I don't even know it and I'm too lazy to open the file and find out. |

I'd like this staircase for my house. |

Since you are to be an architect shouldn't you use AutoCAD all the time? I mean max is for entertainment, cad and solidedge and such are for construction. |

I must say, that is an interesting question. |

yeah but I hate AutoCAD. It's so retarded, everything I do with autocad I can do in max 3 times as fast. And just as accurate. |

But you will be forced to use it, say goodbye to polygon modeling and hello to solid modeling. We had an AutoCAD course at high school and I hated it. I hate all the exact numbers, toleraces, Symmetry lines and whatever. Never used the 3d version though, only looked at it for one lession. Stupid solid modeling. |

AutoCAD is not retarded, it's just primitive. Oh well, maybe a little retared ![]() |
