Ancestral Dell

Proloque

Since the beginning of time and even 2 days more the forces of Light and Darkness were fighting each other in a bloody battle with no mercy and so on...
Yes, actually that's the whole plot. It's an AoS... so what?

But what's so special about just another AoS? ...

Yes, why not simply play DOTA! OMFG OLOL DOT4 4TW H4xX!!!!
Because this AoS has only 10 (currently only 8) heros.

Yeah that sounds, great... less heros = less fun = more players.
Easy, isn't it?

Nah, it's not that simple. Actually every hero is bunch off possibilities to chose your spells. Every hero can chose 3 spells out of 12. If you know your friend binomial coefficient you also know that you have 220 possibilities.

The Spellsystem...

...is whats it makes so special. Actually it's a bit inspired by Guild Wars.
There are 11 different spellbranches with 4 spells each branch. And every hero can chose from 3 branches. (Except the heinous Ogre (because hes a bit stronger than other heroes), he can only chose out of 2 branches makes = 56 possibilities)

The branches are:
  1. Barbarian's Lust
Warcrys and violent attacks are part of this branch.
  2. Shortrangefighting
Deal damage and learn the tricks of shortrangecombat.
  3. Marksman's matter
Manipulated arrows and bowtechniques are the essentials of MM.
  4. Weaponcontrol
Learn how to use your Axe and let your enemies eat your blade.
  5. Trickycraft
Poisen your enemies, steal their items and learn how to hide.
  6. Engineering
Machines and gear-wheels are your skills.
  7. Witchery
Bewitch the others with disastrous buffs.
  8. Nature's theurgy
Learn how to use the power of nature to heal your friends and to scare the others.
  9. Arcane arts
Pure control over the magician's craft.
  10. Necromancy
The dead will follow your will and your enemies will suffer from evil hexspells.
  11. Antitheurgy
Steal your adversary's mana and dispell his buffs.

Apart from the 3 choseable spells a hero has, every single hero got 2 basic, herospecific spells. A beginningspell and an ultimate.

What else?

Another feature that'll be implemented is hero saving.
WTF H3r0 $4\/1Ng 15 1M134!!!!111 3v3rY H3r0 k1ll5 t3h b3g1nn3r5!!!!
The maximum level is 20 and beginners got an item that helps them survive against highlevel players. It's windwalk cloak that allows them to turn invisible and escape from highlevel heroes. This item will be removed when the hero gets over level 5. Also the heros gain levels very fast.
The code will save experience and unique or setitems.

This Map is based on TEAMPLAY

That means your hero is a bit weak when he walks all alone through the pampa. Especially mages. Because every hero got other branches he can take a special task in the team so that the spells of the team complement one another. You need a bit skill for teamplay.

Other features in short:

-Subquests [not yet implemented]
-Unique and Setitems [not yet implemented]
-A bigger inventory [not yet implemented]
-Comboskills
-Choseable camera

What i still need...

-Several betatesters that fullfil a few conditions
-> Concentrates on one hero
-> Some english skills (i made a lot of mistakes :P)
-> Gives a good statement about bugs (maybe even looks for the reason of the bug in the code)
-> Writes down the bugs and maybe even takes a screenshot
-> Some should be able to host a map on bnet (because i can't)

- BUGFINDER (Very important)

I need 1-2 people that got a knowledge of jass and helps me to FIND bugs
in my code and figure out the reason of the bug. You don't need to fix them, thats my task. Only find them in the code.

If you want to help me please post it in the Projectrecruitmentthread:

Sweet, another AoS.
I'll give this a try and report my findings soon.

Gotta ask though, where could one download it to try it?
Or is that "betatester" only?

Thank you.
It not finished of course. (actually its beta 0.1) I'll upload one version to test it this evening. I'll always upload the next version when the next betatest is going to happen.

heres a testversion:
Please don't judge it as a finished version. Theres still MANY MANY spells to do and many many bugs to fix. And i'm thankful for every bug you find. :)

(The uploadfunction of wc3c didnt like my zip so i had to take rapidshare.)

Garnogal did the grom skin you're using.

And that titan model was done by Oniwaga.
I look forward to giving the map a try.

Opinions, opinions, opinions:

I dislike the Ewok, and it doesn't matter that they were annoying in Star Wars, I would have disliked it even if you had put the coolest character from SW or any other franchise there. I just hate fan franchise mixing.

I think you actualy have too many heroes. As you said yourself, there's not only 8 of them, but much more due to all the possible customisation. It feels like there's too many skill branches, but with two more heroes perhaps they will repeat more and not seem so hero specific (only one hero has Marksman's Matter).

Also, design wise, I don't like it that the ogre has only two branches, just seems like too much of an exception to the otherwise universal system, now if more heroes would break it that would be ok I guess, but only one seems out of place. Also, the names of spell branches are.. odd, unless that was the idea?

Edit: terrain is spectacular though.
Edit2: oh, and as commented after me, save codes doesn't sound like a good idea.

Looks great...

...bar save codes. I hate save codes. Care to give your reasoning behind including it in an AoS...?

And here I was expecting CG to say "Not enough info, 48 hour warning."

CG does have a good point though.
Why the heck would anyone want to save and load heroes in an AoS?
So you start better than the enemy team? What good does that do?
And a windwalk cloak won't fix the sheer attribute differences between a level 20 hero and a level 4 one.

Also, once you save a level 20 hero with the best items for it...
To play that hero in a game removes ALL development from it, making the AoS pretty... Dull.
I say ditch that silly system.

Yes... maybe you're right. Anyway it's not implemented yet. I just wanted to add this to make unique and set items possible. Those set items were supposed to make the hero taking a special task in the team, like healer or something.
But saved experience adds developtment... thats right.
I won't implement it for the first and later i'll make a testversion for that. If it's lame then i will kick it again.

Fluff
Hmmmmm...maybe you could a save a code for not the hero, but rather a save code for the stash of the character's items. When a player saves all his unique items are copied into a box with an inventory. Then, in the next game he loads his box with up to 6 unique/set items and he can take them out and use them once his character reaches an appropriate level. That way, he starts off even with everyone else, but then once he gets to level 15 or so he starts to get items he bought in previous games for small late game advantage.

Also, this way you could make sets harder to complete, so maybe one game you build the weapon of the set and then the next game you can start working on the set's helmet. If you have an intelligence hero one game and get items for him, you don't necessarily have to load those items when you have a strength hero.

Ewok Heroes means this map wins. Period.

And the spell system sounds Kick-ass too.

Add me to beta test, k ? :P

oh and, NEVER EVER put a save/load code in an aos. I was playing some orc vs human map and whats the ppoint where there was a guy that was 35+ lvls bigger than ours. lol

Tiki
I think the map is too big and kinda slow in the beginning, bases need some work. I couldnt even pick anything in the beginning, the items said it needs a patron nearby.

erwtenpeller
Heh, for this idea to work really nicely, have complete freedom of choice wich brances you want, and pick neutral models (one ranged intelligence, one ranged agility, one mellee agility, one melle strength) for each side that have all the appropriate animations.

Also, you havnt shown any images of the interface or any information as to how you are making this whole branch system work. Is it anywhere near intuative? Easy to understand? or do you have to weathe through endless amounts of screens and commands?

Born²Modificate
Okay i think i will disqualify the idea with the savecode. But later i will think about FLUFF's idea.
@Tiki: Yeah it's kinda big but there are also waypoints you can use.
I also added a few things to make the game start with more action like damage items.

And yes a few ingame Screenshots..
but first i'll explain the chosing system:

Zoom (requires log in)

First chose your hero and remember his branches. (otherwise you have to look it up under F9)

Zoom (requires log in)

You can see the branch between the two scroll buttons. With those 2 buttons you can scroll between the branches. In the Image above it's the branch Engineering. In upper row there are the spells.

Zoom (requires log in)
Zoom (requires log in)

Now chose your 3 spells. Wood represents the remaining skillpoints you still have.

Zoom (requires log in)

If youve spend all your points, use your "Start Game" item.

Zoom (requires log in)

You can upgrade your spells via the dummyspells in your skillmenu. Type "-skills" to see in which order you've chosen your spells. ;)

Now a few ingame screens:
