SPELL MAKING SESSION #9

The point of this, and all other spell making sessions, is to give all spell makers a challenge along with a specific theme.
You will as a participant submit a single spell based around the given theme.
Winner will be decided by public vote.

Prize:
The winner of each session gets 20 reputation points and an award icon (Appears under your name and in your profile).
Additional second and third place prizes may be awarded if there is enough participation.

Rules:
  • You can use JASS / GUI / WEU / vJass / Anything else that you want for your spell. (Specify in the test map)
  • The spell you enter must be new and made specially for this contest.
  • Everybody is allowed and encouraged to enter, as long as they follow the rules.
  • Please post info and WIP screenshots of your spell while you are making it to get more activity in this thread.
  • Imported models are only allowed if they are used for very minor things. (A particle emitter or ribbon emitter could be acceptable.)
  • One entry per person.
  • Submitted maps may be no larger than 500kb. And that's stupidly large anyway. Just added because of a certain submission in the previous contest. - blu
When your spell is finished, just attach the map to this thread.
When the session is finished, I recommend submitting your spell to the resource section assuming it follows the rules!

Theme:

Channeling Spells ~
The theme of this contest is to make your spell do whatever it is you want it to do, but channeled in some fashion.
This means you can get creative with HOW or WHEN during the spell the channeling occurs, but the only requirement is that it has to be channeled.
By channeled I do not mean pausing the caster, I mean self-interruptible channel like Starfall in-game is.

Deadline:

The session ends seven days from now. (24:00 GMT-5: July 15, 2007)
Potential extensions are possible if lots of people need them.
This may also change depending on Blu's schedule.

Future Themes:

If you have ideas for future themes for spell sessions, please PM them to myself or Blu.
Blu and I will be the ones dealing with these from here on in.

The last contest rocked the house with 19 entries, let's see if this one will do as well.
Let's keep it going!

Good luck everybody!

FIRST POST! I know what I am going to do. It's time to use vJASS. I'm thinking some kind of beserker spell that builds up fatigue based on cast time.
My idea is that the hero charges for up to 10 seconds. After the release of energy is triggered, the unit will send out a stream of <X> fireballs dealing <X> damage over a period of 5 seconds. That means that more charge-up time is equal to more fireballs per second (FPS)
I might need an extension because im away from home 5 days a week where i can only brainstorm code and such.... i cant actually compile code or test except 2 days

Well we'll decide on an extension, if one is really necessary, after a few days.
I figure it takes me maybe 4 hours to fill out a testmap and debug a spell to get it working, that means I assume everyone else can do it in 8 hours.

It's really not that tough to crank it out once you have an idea. :p
But we'll see.

Yeah the idea part is the hardest. Once you get that down everything else is cake.

Will there be contests like this throughout the summer? I think they are great ideas.

That's the goal.
Which is also a reason I would like each contest to only last a week.
A week over summer is PLENTY of time to make a single spell, and the faster each one is over the more we can have.

Awesome, should be a great summer with all these spells!

I know I said I would enter last time and never actually ended up doing so... but I really mean it this time.

TheSecretArts, please don't ever post like that again. You have no idea how obtuse that was to read.

I'm not a big fan of this theme, it's too broad. It's like saying "make a spell that targets a unit". If I think of something really creative I'll enter, but I probably won't.

Don't get me wrong, I love the contests, I just don't like this theme. A lot of people probably like this more because it allows for more creativity, but I need something to be inspired by to make a spell.

@Pyrogasm: Ok, I cleaned up grammar, made my post more readable, fixed spellingm, and fixed most everything in my post.

@Szythe: Channeling spells isn't as broad as you might think. Well, at least making good ones rather than the good ol' channel blizzard.

I've got a nice story for my spell:

This beserker spell, known as Molten Core, when enough energy is channeled into, could stem the armies of the demons, but only mages such as Medihv could ever hope to summon such a powerful energy source. For such reasons, most all mages will refuse to charge energy for longer than 10 seconds because of risk to their own bodies. But when a mages chooses to summon up more energy than that which could be summoned in 10 seconds, they then put their lives in jeapordy by attempting to cast the second form of this spell. This spell is referred to as Molten Overload and any mage who has tried this spell was able to destroy an army. But those victories came at a terrible cost. The mages upon attempting to end their casting, could not stop the flow of energy, this energy continued to rip their bodies apart, and they then combusted in a terrible explosion ripping apart the land in a wide vicinity. Their victories were hollow ones...."
It's a nice little 'thing' you might see in some sort of spell caster's manual on spells and what they do.

I have an idea.. Its pretty simple, but I think it will do well. Its basically Starfall but it heals also, and will heal/damage in a unique way.
