Hello again, I've been working on a map for quite awhile now and I can't think of a good death penalty system. Originally I fined the player, then it was a wait for 30 seconds, then you respawned as a ghost and had to fight your way through a maze of undead sheep, and now it is just a 20 second wait. I need some good mini game like the undead sheep maze or being able to find and retrieve your corpse. +rep, <3, and cookies to anyone who helps! |

How about, you have to bargain with the grim reaper and solve a maze out of the grim reaper's labiryth without dying and if you die, you are held in stasis for 30 seconds... it should be easy enough to complete, but if you act stupid, then you have to fight your way through again. |

So a random maze gen? How can you "bargain with the grim reaper"? |

you bargain with him that if you escape his labyrinth, you survive, else you suffer 30 seconds * failed runs, punishment |

Actually, would it be possible to implement a corpse retrieval system similar to the one in World of Warcraft? |

You could go with a short mini-mini-game with the grim reaper. If you decline, you have to wait 30 seconds. If you lose, you wait 30 seconds and have to live with a slightly less powerful body (first time, zombie; second time, skeleton; third time, ghost; fourth time, 45 second wait). If you win, you don't wait at all. |

mmhmm, and the WoW system could be easily redone... but thats plain to uninventive, the grim reaper system is much more 'entertaining', especially when some idiot complains, "WTF, I can respawn... this sucks"... j/k... no one will probably do that. |

Be careful to make sure that this does not simply add an unnecessary complication to the revive process: will it actually improve game play or just make being revived more arbitrary? |

Display a text to the dead player like <^>v<^>v (just have arrows of some sort). Then, make them press the right arrows to match up. Like < is left, ^ is up, etc. When they press the right arrow, change the text so that what is completed is now yellow: I press < then ^ then >, now the text should be: <^>v<^>v. If they press a wrong arrow, then make a wait of like .3-.5 seconds, and during that wait, make arrows impossible to use (the trigger does nothing), and make the wrongly pressed arrow red: I press < then ^ then > then v then v, now the text should be: <^>v<^>v. Then it would revert to: <^>v<^>v. This could easily be randomly generated, and could implement skill in reviving your hero, as well as eliminate the period of doing nothing while waiting. Also .3-.5 second disable would really make just spamming the keys impossible. If you want to penalize heroes for dying a lot, just make the sequence they have to press longer. (That's what I'm doinf anyway). I just think it's a neat idea. |

Make the player fight the grim reaper. Actually, reading this post gave me the idea to make a grim reaper skin.... Maybe I'll get to work on that and then implement it into some of my future projects. |

Thanks for ideas guys! x12 |

I think dino is right. isn't this a little bit pointless? reviving should enhance the gameplay, not be a dumb little chore for the player. |
