Item System!

Well recently, somehow I have managed to come back to map making on a whim of an idea. As I planned out my rpg I began to think about an item system that could be more or less better for any RPG than any other system ever invented. Sadly I am unable to use Jass so it will be very difficult to accomplish and will take weeks of extensive work in order to make everything work correctly. I'm not even 100% shure if all the features I hope to work will do so in the way I wan't them to work.

Heres what the basic features will offer and a VERY general idea of how it will work. I don't want to give everything away because I don't wish for someone to try and steal my ideas and create another system. For all I know tho, there could already be one like this. Anyway to the point!

Item System Features:

It will feature Reputation Purchaseable Items (You will need a certain standing with factions to buy certain items)

It will have a unique trade system allowing you to trade in game with other players, item for item. (If you have ever played WoW, kind of like their trade system)

Have custom trade skills allowing you to collect specific items in specific ways and have many differen't available recipies at a given time.

Have a unique yet simple inventory system witch is weight based (IE: you can only hold items up to a specific weight limit, does not include equipped items) but still be able to hold larger amounts of items.

A custom loot system making it impossible for other players to steal your loot from your kills, along with a group loot system allowing players to roll for items of a certain rarity.

A special equipment system allowing you to equip items to a certain area of your body and being able to see these equipped items at all times (you will see how it better works in game)!

Items and their stats will be linkable in chat.

There will be special recipie items that if you are that specific skill you will be able to learn that recipie by using that item!

Other Thoughts:
The only downfall so far to this system will be that it has a large size and will require alot of triggers and the fact that you will not be able to see items effects if they are in your inventory or are equipped to your hero! Other than those two things I think it will probably be the most amazing item system EVER to be invented. Also alot of the actions will be chat enabled so that will make it somewhat of a downfall but I think it will work extremely well for just about any RPG though. Once I am finished I will be more than happy to release it to anyone who wishes to use it, I just don't want anyone to steal my idea and beat me to the creation of it.

There are different types of RPG maps and the idea that there is one item system that's ideal for all of them, let alone that you came up with it by describing what's pretty much the way WoW deals with items, is rather pretentious.

To be honest with you, all those features already exist in other (MMO)RPGs, so its impossible for someone to steal "your" idea. On top of that, there are a few WC3 RPGs that have utilized portions of your future system.

The only problem I see, is the visual aspect with the wearing items. This requires someone to make the different armor models, and somehow make them so when they attach, they don't look like shit.

@ Anitarf: Well I'm sorry you feel that way but in the end your basing half of your judgement on the fact that I said it would work better than just about any other RPG item system ever invented, and only small parts of it are based on WoW and that is simply because they are using an item system that can almost not even be rivaled, and as RPGs may differ, the simple handling of items does not differ anywhere near as much. The fact remains that this system may take alot to set up but it diversatile and able to change to meet certain needs.

@ Ammorth: Yes MMO RPGs do use this type of system but not as many WC3 RPGs incorporate a system such as this one or include all of its future features, as for the equipping thing, I don't think you quite understood what I meant, I mean that they will not necisarially show on the player but have a slot specific equipment area and show in an minimizable interface so you can see what you have equiped as it will reguarly not be visible other than via the interface. If someone wishes to add showable items on their character, that is soley up to them. My system just includes an inventory system with a special Equip/Unequip setup.

Best RPG inventory system I've seen in a while was incredibly minimilistic.

Complexity normally fails.

Oh, and how good a system is can only be decided in context, not in absolute terms (at least on the good side; a system can be total crap in absolute terms).
