TD Races

Im making a TD and i am having a hrad time thinking of races. Does anyone have any ideas of unique tower races?

Angry Rocks- all towers are rocks that seek revenge for the disrespect shown towards rocks throughout time.

Terra-disruptors- towers that do strange things to terrain to damage units or stun or slow them, you know like earthquakes or water falls or something crazy like that. craters?

um..lemme think a little more i dont feel too creative at the moment.

*edit* maybe like a #$$GLiTCH4^% race..that has like missing model cubes and wierd stuff like that for models..could be played around with for a humerous race..unless you're going for a serious map.

I'm always fascinated by people who make maps without an idea of what it should be. In my case, it's the opposite, I have more detailed map ideas than I have time to make maps.

Anyway, think about it yourself, making stuff up is the most fun part of mapmaking.

you make a very valid point.
but i'm sure he's just charging into the map editor without a lot of experience attempting to make a TD..
without brainstorming first.

so why not just help him out even if his project is gonna go nowhere?

A Glitch race would be cool.

Or howabout a tree race that all the towers were trees with powers based on the tileset they are from. Like a snow base done cor icecrown, a death based one form northern. Spore Powders for the underground ETC.

Right, I have ALWAYS too many ideas, too many stuff to put there...anyways, I don't like races in TD, I like approach of from example Element TD where you choose your direction slowly, over time. Races are stupid. And they are usually either very similiar (some damage dealers, some slowers, some anti air, some splash, an ultimate tower...) or imbalanced.

I would suggest not using races.

- It's a lot more work to create and maintain multiple races. Not only that, you end up making "basic arrow tower" 5 times to fit the theme of each race.
- There's little reward for multiple races. One of the races will be the best, and eventually almost everyone will use it. So what was the point of making all the races in the first place? Avoiding making one race more powerful is very, very difficult (bordering on impossible).
- It frustrates new players. This is especially true when the races aren't equally powerful. Picked the wrong race? Too bad, you lose.

On the other hand, they do add some replay value to a map, and I've never made a popular TD.

Do you want to go unique (as in, never done before, or rarely done) or do you want the generic ones (like demon and stuff)...

I have some unique ones...

Fungus - Cheap towers which are built in a matter of seconds. Most of them have very small range, as in, you have to be next to the tower to be effected, like the blade towers in line tower wars. they can have poison, cold etc abilities but lots of DoTs.

Frenzy - Varied cheapness, but the towers themselves are pretty weak, but have abilities which increase speed, damage and all sorts of things. This is a hard to use race as you need to actually control the towers.

Organic - (I dont know if this one would actually be possible, as I dont know the coding language) but all towers are beacons. They cant attack without seed towers which have abilities. All beacons have the abilities of the seeds.
