I know that the rules for this site is pretty uh.. strict.. about posting ported stuff. But I was wondering if it was even possible to say, export models from older 3D games like Jedi Knight or Half Life, retouch them, then turn them into mdl models? Or maybe newer games, I don't know.

If it were, are there any known sites doing this already?

I don't model so if the answer is going to be technical please say something I'd understand too :D

Well, at http://xgm.ru/files.php?fc=2, someone posted a dragon model from neverwinter nights... But I suggest you don't discuss this here as it is heavily frowned upon

Everything is possible, but that doesn't make it right.

May I know why it's "not right"? Is it because it's made by the other game's programmers?
Thanks for shedding some light into this. I've been wondering for some time.

Because it's not yours to use.

People make things to be used "as-is", not to tweaked and ported to other formats. It is almost stealing.

Not to mention breaking numerous copyright laws, and looking shite because of the clash of styles.

Just out of curiosity what if you're making a wc3 mod of that other game that you're importing models from?

Also what if the models are of real life vehicles that you need for your map?

You make them yourself.
