Made a model... wrapping problem

Fluff
Every few months I try and then inevitably fail at modeling for WC3. This time I downloaded 3ds Max 7 and feel I'm close to successfully modeling some non animated doodads. I used LithUnwrap to make a UV and then I made a test bitmap and converted and such and they showed up pretty good in WC3 Viewer. However, some of the textures seemed too stretched so I probably did something wrong. Here's how it went:

-Made model with 3ds Max 7 from scratch
-Tried and failed to use the UV Editor in the program
-Saved non-mapped file and opened it in Lith
-Moved the pieces around a bit, just to test it
-Saved the model, then saved the .bmp and put some colored lines on bmp
-Converted the .3ds to .MDX and told it to use the texture I made
-Converted bmp to blp
-Opened it using WC3 Viewer
Note: for some reason I can't convert this mdx to an mdl...but maybe I don't have to because I already set it to use the correct texture with the 3ds > mdx converter

Ok, so now I need to redo the UV map with either LithUnwrap or in 3ds Max and I want to use an in game texture (the tavern texture). I couldn't figure out how to load a texture into Lith so I could line it up. Can anyone help me to set up this UV map? I already looked through the tutorials in the modeling section and couldn't see anything that would help me do a texture already in game. I need step by step because I'm bad at following instructions

Thanks for your time, sorry if I have rambled too much, but I want to try to explain it all.
