A map started today with Andy, for the Hive's contest. |

A playable map or is it just terrain, what's the contest about? |

Seems to be a freeform map contest. This will be very playable. |

You have some brown (dead perhaps) grass in the river. How does that work? |

It did concern me. The grassy cliff has a grassy edge at the base. Some areas I'll make deep water, otherwise its not something I can really remove. |

In this moment your terrain is too plain, but it's clear that it's still in development. Some tips: Try to use cliffs to define big mountains only, or places where you need to limit the visibility. Rivers can be made by decreasing the terrain, in order to achieve this effect you should start a new terrain selecting as initial water level "deep water" and then increase the terrain height with raise tool and pen size = 8. Random the terrain heights as much as possible, it makes this tileset look more savage and good looking :) Here I have 2 maps where I applied different terrain development in this tileset. I hope it helps you with your map. |

I know all that moyack. This started out as a simple strategic terrain, but I got a bit carried away prettying it up. It needs to be playable, so I'm using cliffs to clean cut that. I wont be starting over. What's 'choas' MadseN? |

In my opinion, the bridges don't mix very well with the barrens color scheme. I'd recommend a different kind, or, at the very least, tinting the ones you are using slightly orange/brown. |

Not really sure how to judge what you've made so far tbh. You said that you did all this in a day and so far the layout of the terrain looks nice. Needs environmental doodads (Even if it is in the Barrens!) such as Rocks, Spires, etc. and give them a roll too so when you place them on a hill they tilt with the hill; looks alot better that way usually. I hate it when you have a piece of a doodad sticking out the side of a hill in that annoyingly bad stand-outy way. Might want to place some craters in the ground as well, since you're clearly going for that Wastelands look... with grass and water. Which leads up to another problem, why is there rivers in the desert? ;) (Egypt's Nile River doesn't count... God was a n00b and terrained it wrong.^_^ ) ~Craka_J |

Craka_J thinks he is so uber. And Whitehorn, i think you should tink the bridges. they look outta place. |

Terrain is a natural formation. Bridges are artificial structures. It's no surprise they look out of place... |
