Next Spell Making Session?

When is the next spell session is going to happen? Its been a while since the last session.

Can you please shut up about the lack of contests. There have only been 9 Spell Making sessions in the history of Wc3c, and it just so happened that there were 2 of them this summer.

Contests are not daily occurrences here.

We try to make sure themes are interesting, not repetitive, and offer good options for participants to make spells around.
Until we get a theme we feel isn't gay as hell, we won't start a new one.

Feel free to discuss potential themes in here if you really want to.
Generally we prefer theme ideas to be PMed to us, but sometimes discussing it helps more.

A Spell related to 'Attacking' / 'Being Attacked'

Standard Blizzard Examples:
  • Critical Strike
  • Evasion
  • Feedback
  • Bash

Dota Examples:
  • Juxtapose % Chance on attack to create a duplicate Image.
  • Warpath % Chance on attack to gain +100% atk speed very briefly.
  • Maelstrom % Chance on attack to cast a Chain Lightning.
  • Sange % Chance on attack to slow target and deal bonus damage.
  • Backtrack % Chance when damaged to avoid all of the damage.
  • Corrosive Skin % Chance when attacked to slow the attacker's move/atk speed.


There are loads more examples also from other maps like AoM, DoE etc.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Death one. Either a unit or a hero. (Killing/Hero death.)

That could be a possibility.
We were considering line spells as a potential theme.

It would kind of be neat if everybody attempted a spell based on the effect of Blink Strike. The idea being altering a hero's position and getting him to deal damage by attack to a unit/units. Of course I would expect a lot better submissions from these members than the one used in DotA (pretty much SetUnitPosition combined with a regular attack) but I think that in terms of creativity its a pretty open subject.

A Buff spell?

Simply gives target unit/units a buff that has an effect immedietly,overtime or at the end or even All.

My personal opinion is that we should never do an 'attack' theme spell contest because you run in to all the issues of attack detection etc.

Projectile idea does sound promising. Ie. ability can not auto-target, it must involve some effect that must be aimed to be used. Or some such.

These are the themes that have been used so far:

2: Hero Motion
3: Chain Spells
4: Terrain Manipulating
5: Resource Usage
6: Doppelganger (Image)
7: Water
8: Mana Burn
9: Channeling
And yeah, if we did use "line," then cones would be okay.
We were really considering the whole "aim in target direction and something happens that way" as the prominent aspect of line spells, not the fact that it shoots in that specific shape.

I like the way that one sounds.
It would be nice to see what people could come up with for that.

Agreed, the most popular abilities are usually based on this concept. Look at Pudge Wars Advanced for example... he made a whole map out of it that spell.
